In this case total VC sponge. From Ars 2023:

"There’s already a long and interesting history of specialist or unconventional web browsers, but Arc is partly notable for its heavy-duty backing. The Browsing Company was founded by former Facebook employees and raised millions from prominent investors like Ev Williams.

It’s a relatively expensive long-term commitment to support a new web browser, and it’s not yet abundantly clear from using Arc exactly what its business model is."

'Meta'-documentary is what I've seen it described as

(other movies that have earned this title seem to give the impression that it's straight cinéma vérité, but them reveal certain parts were staged, thus delving into the whole 'perception IS reality' and 'what IS truth, anyway??' side of the street that some people find real deep. I haven't seen the movie, but I expect the same goes (and people who have seen it, haven't said I'm wrong)

Anyway, on friday the homepage of NYTimes had four articles dedicated to this movie. By Sunday, there were six. I wonder how it's doing such great business?

Well, the Mayor just sued the public teachers union because they had the gall to give teacher's aides in their ranks a 10k raise (they currently make about 35k a year. Yes, in NYC), even though said mayor stated he supported this precise act for the precise amount several times while campaigning when he wanted and needed those votes (hey, you think he's going to get 30 million to build a food co-op by letting public servants help themselves? It's not like these teachers will starve, he's building a 30 million dollar co-op that promises very reasonable prices. And he keeps his promises)

Is it any wonder that tech bros find this to be the kind of leadership they can get behind? You can call yourself a socialist and still be openly hostile to unions! Girls will like you AND you can still make your underlings grovel. It's like a dream come true!

I guess maybe there's a lot of grannies or tech illiterate people out there who are still using their 10 year old iMac or macbook for email and youtube or something like that. I think you can still run Firefox on macOS Catalina, maybe that's enough for a lot of people.

Well, mac was doing the "you aren't allowed to upgrade the OS on this hardware. Please buy new hardware. thx" thing WAY before Microsoft. And since apple hardware tends to be... not cheap, there's probably more than a few tech literates under the age of 65 that simply told apple to fuck themselves thrown in. I personally know a few (hell, I'd probably be one if the power supply in my last mac didn't die)

I've been running the "lite" version of uBlock Origin and it seems fine. I'm sure there's some esoteric situations where it falls apart, but I've yet to run into them.

Yeah, esoteric situations like blocking alphabet's own ads.

That's the entire rub. Google wants you to block ads. All of them, except theirs. I think there's a word for that.
