So if I saw a horse walking funny behind the stables and bet against it in a horse race, is that illegal?
Don't bet on things that can speak or understand language. But it's still gambling and absurd to make subject to financial trading regulation.
Why are we bothering to regulate something that can't be reasonably practically regulated? Open betting on anything and everything, but people need to have been sufficiently uninformed to have made the bet "fair"?
It's like banning knowing what you're talking about. We do it for businesses because there are fundamental economic mechanics that come from collectivized investment and market price discovery, and the fairness of information release has legally prescribed mechanics (e.g., quarterly reports).
What utility does Kalshi provide to the economy? What's the social and/or economic value? What are the fair mechanics for information availability?
And for a super tight kernel team with access to formal verification tools, I may want them to have rope, shotgun, nukes, and a paperclip (don't ask).
No way in hell I want the CS recent grad who spent a semester learning "operating systems" in JAVA anywhere near critical system level components (yes, there was a time when students were being taught "OS" dev without consideration of pointers or deterministic finalization - the 90's and 2k's were wild).
So youâ(TM)re just going to âoeno true Scotsmanâ anything that doesnâ(TM)t fit the urban design that you want, stick your head in the sand, and crap on everyone who finds practical solutions to real needs?
Individual/small-group on-demand transit is a valuable ingredient in an overall urban recipe, especially when these cities (and, yes, theyâ(TM)re cities) were started before mass transit was a foreseeable reality. Robotaxis en masse actually represent a mechanism that could satisfy an incredibly wide range of transit modalities, since they could form up into virtual trains if such an approach was called for. As it stands, when electrically powered, they present a very effective bridge from where we are to many versions of where we might want to be. Making a city less passable to *force* it to be walkable is just about the best way to kill the city outright. Iâ(TM)ll invite folks to witness Valencia st in San Francisco. Public policy canâ(TM)t just be idealistically wished upon the public. Theyâ(TM)ll just walk (or drive) somewhere else.
An NSA report pushing forward adoption of a language without formal specification that relies on toolchain magic? I love rust, but now I'm going to wonder if the NSA is working supply chain compiler backdoors into our codebases...

YouTube is headquartered (with a big site) in San Bruno. Lots of companies have stuff down on Matilda, so they may have some offices down there. I think the big concentration is still in San Bruno, however.

To those who claim the race riots etc are the result of the president, notice how employment has gone up for those typically considered disenfranchised.
Notice how as a % of support the current president has a much higher number. And all of this for a guy that reminds people of my generation of Clint Eastwoodâ(TM)s companion orangutan Clyde.
All these fools need to man up (or the pc version of that for whatever they identify as) and realize that the president does not have the kind of power they think he does and we all have a chance to express our political opinion. Itâ(TM)s called voting. Rioters in the streets are not viable. Terrorist organizations are not viable and should be treated as such (terrorist organizations meaning any non government group [sadly this means the bureau of land management is not a bunch of terrorists, but they try hard to look it] which uses or threatens the use of violence against any one in an effort to induce political or civil change).
It is simple as the 4 liberty boxes:
"There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Please use in that order."
Ammo should only be used to defend active aggression when all other measures have failed and you are willing to pay the price for it, your own life, in defense of another's
Actually he has done quite a bit, he has gotten nationâ(TM)s top talk together (Israel and Saudi, N/S Korea), rolled back regulations, and made it so that the DEA is not sending out live letters for importing meds. That last one was packaged with the ability to treat your condition as you and your physician see fit even if it is not even a phase 1 trial.
One may not like the language or manner he achieved it, but he has done more, for minorities and alternative lifestyles than any recent president.
