Journal johndiii's Journal: Dear Microsoft Customer Support: 6

Thank you so much for your efforts to make sure that everyone has that critical Outlook patch. Why, today alone there were no less than nine emails waiting for me! That is truly a conscientious effort on your part.

One thing that I should mention, though - a catchy subject might help to get your message across better. Like the concerned fellow who wants me to "Become virile like rabbit!" I will certainly remember that one for a while. Perhaps you could use "Become infected with horrible virus - NOT!!" Just as rabbits are a model of virility, Outlook could be seen as a model of security.

No need to take the time to thank me. Just keep right on with your campaign to make sure that everyone's copy of Outlook is correctly patched.

You don't need to send me any more e-mails, though - I don't run Outlook on my MacBook.

  • Well played.

Although I do use Outlook, the patching and updating e.mails go to the IT folks. NMP, fortunately.

  • *&#$ Microsoft keeps insisting upon bundling IE "updates" (that have NOTHING to do with security) under the same aegis of critical security updates on auto-update. It cheeses me off when I select NOT to take an 8.0 IE update (especially since I don't even run it) and NOT to ask me again, then next update it tries to install a 7.0 IE update, and then when I choose NOT to take that one, next time it tries 8.0 AGAIN, repeat ad nauseum.

I'm counting the days until they start selling the auto-update pop-up a

  • IE Updates are just an excuse to keep me away from Firefox and Opera.

    And my WebPine works fine.

  • I haven't used Outlook in literally years. I switched when I kept seeing virus reports of viruses that would steal the address book.

That said, I have received no spam, at all, in over a year and a half. Finally, no more hot stock tips.

    • The rest of us, literally years ago, simply switched Outlook to plain text mode, as MS recommended, and the good Lord intended (for the simple medium of electronic mail). Since then I've not witnessed a single instance of blinking giant red text in a recruiter email.

  • That made me snicker. :-)
