Journal johndiii's Journal: 31337 names for your kids? 18

Not in New Zealand!

Update: Upon being denied permission to name their son "4real", the couple went to their second choice: "Sue".

Update Update: Yes, "Sue" was a joke. I had assumed that the Johnny Cash song A Boy Named Sue was relatively common knowledge. :-)

  • My last name is Day, therefore there are certain names are off limits. Holly being the most obvious. I cannot understand why a parent would wish to shackle their child with a cruel name.
  • Either that, or that Sue is considered a boy's name in New Zealand.
  • which is actually (US version) William Christopher Seth Affleck-Asch (and the hyphen back in 1960 means most of my US records are bunged up like my SS card has a totally wrong abbreviation that has made my life heck, the joys of being born on a USAF base in Texas), and a more complicated Canadian legal name of William Christopher Seth Affleck-Asch-Lowe (yes, two hyphens), I think the parents are FOOLS.

When my ex and I got married, I had already stopped using the Canadian version of my name, and we decided t

  • We jokingly called Myles, Mercer 2.0 until we settled on a name for him and while it was a joke it started to appeal to me after a while. I seriously considered it before coming to my senses.
  • This is not a joke. I know someone who called their kid Ford, after Ford Prefect (originally the name of a Ford car sold in Britain, but made famous world wide by DNA's character in HHGTG).

I also know someone who named their three kids Thor, Morgaine and Callum. The last is fine (it's quite a popular name, but Morgaine sounds like some kind of hair restorer, and Thor is extremely unusual. While Thor will suck for the poor kid when he's little, I think that name will eventually become cool. Imagine going int
  • Both my girls' middlenames start with St and my wife is pregnant with a boychild so I want to keep the string (barompum) going. I'm pulling for Striker as I'm a huge soccerfan and I think it would be cool. It's likely to get vetoed though. Any other ideas? Strider is too nerdy, Stellan too girly.

Stanford (I like this one... probably because I want to go to grad school there)
