If you include those who self-identify as bisexual, gay, & lesbian together you get more than 8% of the population, mainly due to the number of the younger generations identifying as bisexual. Even without including bisexual, you get more than 3% of the population identifying as gay or lesbian.

To your point, though, isostatic rebound has long been known and accounted for in local histories of shorelines. Plate tectonics do not, however, affect sea level appreciably.

The Milankovitch cycle theories were getting refined and stories about them and scientific debates about the rate of change approaching glacial maxima periods were popularized in the 70s due to some extreme cold winters in the US. But most scientific papers about the climate were still supporting the theory that continuing to pump CO2 into the air would lead to a global increase in temperatures.

I believe that, on the contrary, for the typical movie theaters they don't get enough in box office receipts to pay for operating costs and overhead. If they can't get enough people buying their overpriced concessions, they will go broke like the theater nearest me.

Even decades ago, this is often what kept me out of the theater. I would see a promo for a movie I might like to see, but by the time a week or two went by before I had a chance to go see it, it wouldn't be in the theaters anymore. And most of the movies actually in the theaters at any given time weren't really capturing my interest. Now the (multi-plex) theater nearest me is shut down, vacant, and sad looking.

Lightning doesn't have to travel to the ground, it can travel cloud-to-cloud or within the same cloud ithout reaching the ground. Cloud-to-cloud lightning is more common than cloud-to-ground.

I did the same, for a year and a half. I looked at it as a step towards retirement, but I was a little surprised just how much of a difference that extra day off made.

Looked it up and the one-lane road is closer to 600 feet, but that's mostly public road, so, no I can't just put a shack at the end of it, it wouldn't be on my property.
Also, when I first moved here I had cable with Comcast, or whatever they were calling themselves 20+ years ago, and lost the signal. They said it was a problem on our end, and I'd have to pay for a new underground cable, routed around the garage and into the back rather than under the driveway. Along with other problems with Comcast, that was going to be very expensive. So I got Direct TV installed for free, instead. (Not the best, but fine for cable at the time)
