Journal jawtheshark's Journal: American Bashin 14

60 years ago... American troops liberated Luxembourg. I might be an America-basher, but I won't forget history. I don't bash you for the past, I am thankful for what you did. History lesson here .

Once again... my liberators... my friends... I appreciate what you have done. However this doesn't mean perpetual servitude, you seem to forget that.

  • we liberated you folks, now we get to make some cash off the deal... That's why we liberate folks! This is capitalism not charity! yeesh.
    • At a certain point, past investments may just stop returning money. That is also capitalism.

Uhm, and while Iraq may be for economical reasons (have my doubts these days, I thougth Iraq was about oil), the liberation of WWII was something else. Back then, the Third Reich really was a big potential threat to the US. In WWII, the US had a reason to fear....

      • In at the end of WWII the russians were at our doorstep. Leaving the European marketplace to the soviets was not an option.

Europe has been fortunate to receive the monetary support when it needed it most, but in the next 50 years, it has also largely 'allowed' the US to become the only economic, political and military leader of this world. Movie and popcorn culture has made sure we had some fake images and things to look up to.

Oh, well, one nice round number's as good as another, and the spirit is much appreciated.
  • Nobody in the U.S. wants servitude. Just gratitude.

And I don't think the Iraq war was about oil, but then, I'm one of those weirdos who think Bush is really trying to liberate Iraq like democrats do all the time (Bosnia, Viet Nam, Korea, WWII).

I fail to see why because he's an EVIL REPUBLICAN he can't do something for good. Sure there was the WMD screw up. Even Putin admitted he gave what he thought was good intelligence on it to Bush (and Russian intelligence, especially where Iraq is concerned, is to

First, let me tell you that this journal entry exactly gave what you wanted: gratitude. Alas, this is not the real truth. It seems that many of your countrymen/media confuse gratitude and servitude:

      • I was in the US three times. Two of those times I was in actual contact with your citzens. At both occasions, when speaking, I got the ominious phrase "we saved your butts back in '45".
      • When the war on Iraq started, your media was full off "Fran
      • The only thing is that somewhere something went wrong... What I can't say... but something went wrong, and I'm not talking about the WMD.

Well, I don't think it's as bad as the press would have. And no, I don't think it's great, either. Certain regions have power and water and schools and free weddings and properity and there are elections. These are the things that will make Iraq great and it is what every American would LOVE to have happen. We are an idealistic nation. Wilson loathed dealing with t
