Journal jawtheshark's Journal: Beer 17

Sometimes I get asked what my favourite brand of beer is. Well it is Bofferding. You probably don't know it and the odds finding it are close to nihil. (Unless you live in Luxembourg of course). Their ongoing publicity campaign is actually based on the concept that it's a "Luxembourg-only" beer. Their slogan is "De Seffege Secret vun Letzebuerg", which means about "The thirsty secret of Luxembourg".

I was recently on their website hoping to find their ads that they show in the movie theathre. Yup, they are there... The one I find most funny is the 2000 ad. You can also go and see all their ads in their gallery

I hope you find it entertaining :-) Yeah, I know it is not "Budweiser-wazzup-quality", but ad budgets are smaller for small beer companies.

  • I will have to try this Luxembourgish delicacy sometime. Will need to wait until I'm back in Europe though.

Recently my sweetie (guess who, on my Fans list) and I were in .de and enjoyed a long list of tasty beers. Particularly recommended are Radeberger [radeberger.de] from Dresden, and Berliner Weisse from Schultheiss [schultheiss.de] in Berlin.

Here in San Francisco we have a unique beer called Anchor Steam [anchorbrewing.com] that is strongly recommended if you can get it. Probably difficult to find across the pond, but you might get lucky.

I think that won't be enough, unless you get close enough to Luxembourg. The furthest I have seen it sold was 80km from the border. Of course that was in Belgium. I don't know how far it their market reaches into Germany, but I doubt very far.

my sweetie (guess who, on my Fans list)

Everyone knows claudia by now, I think. Thanks for pushing it in that I don't have a sweety ;-)

Radeberger is a kind of well known brand. I never heard of Schulth

    • Heh, Anchor steam by far is my favorite beer. Sorry JtS, it's difficult to find even here, and I'm only 450 miles (1/2 the state) away from the brewery. A six pack for $8... so tempting.

Second favorite beer is 'brothers' something. I can't remmeber the details, but my Mom had bought it last time I was visitiing. Truely excellent.

Definitely if your in the U.S. check out any microbreweries. The mass-produced stuff is horrible, unless your into that sort of thing (overly yeasty, under hoppy).

      Mmmmm... b
  • I thought that was a fresh commercial!

Decent beer from my part of the world- Tupper's Hop Pocket (get the Pils).

Anchor Steam is pretty nice, too.

Speaking of beer- I actually enjoyed my first Boddington's the other day. I've had it before, and found it to be lacking that beer taste... not enough beer in my beer, if you know what I mean. But after two Sapphire and Tonics I decided to cool off with a bodingtons, and it was actually quite good.

    Boddingtons: enjoy while alreay drunk.
    • Isn't National Bohemian the preferred beer in Baltimore? Okay, it's cheap, but it's tradition!
    • I thought that was a fresh commercial!

So did I... That's why I posted it :-) It really is great on the big screen of a movie theathre.

I just mentioned the Wassup commercials because I only have seen very few of them. The only one that I can actually remember is the one with the dog that turns out to be an alien. I loved that one. All others seem to be erased from my memory.

Oh... and a tip for drinking "less tasty beer". Serve it ice-cold. Normally beer must be drunk at around 5C. If your bee

      • I liked both the commercials. Luxembourg has some cute women. Are there lesbians in Luxembourg? Maybe I need to pay a visit...okay, maybe it's not possible. Maybe you can send one of the women over to me. Just tell her she's will be visited by aliens from outer space. They always fall for it. ;-)

I bought decent beer, like for example Hoegaarden Grand Cru With 8.7% alc it has some potency ;-)

Hoegaarden Forbidden Fruit sounds like it'd be my kind of beer. :-9

You are lucky. Around here the law limits t

        • Luxembourg has some cute women.

Most definately... they don't notice me however.

          Are there lesbians in Luxembourg?

I think... why do you ask?

Around here the law limits the alcohol percent of beer to around 1 or 2%.

How can you even call that beer? That's water! A good pils varies between 4.5% and 5.5%. Tsss... beer with 2% alc, that's for wussies ;-)

          • Luxembourg has some cute women.

Most definately... they don't notice me however.

Yes, that's too bad. Perhaps you need some sort of gimmick for them to notice you. Let's see...some lame site said: "A female ferret will die if it goes into heat and cannot find a mate. It's true!" Perhaps you should dress up as a ferret, and tell the women this story. Tell her you think she is in heat, and she needs to mate with you. That'll get yoo some attention. ;-) Oke, maybe it's a lame joke, but you never know, it m

You must be great to party with...

I would like to see some Luxembourg lesbian pr0n, know where I may find some?

If I find some, I'll let you know. Heck, if I can *make* some, I'll let you know ;-)

Drink some good beer for me!

              Right now, I ca

  • One of my favorite pastimes.

Kat and I have discovered the joy of micro-breweries. So much so that we have our own mugs here [oakenbarrel.com]. So do 328 other people but hey... you take your exclusiveness where you can get it right?

Kat has been drinking their version of a black and tan with the porter and lager. However, they've just gotten a new brewmaster (bastard!) so they're replacing the lager with a steam and a pilsner. She's most pleased.

I, oddly enough, currently prefer the raspberry wheat beer. I have no idea why
    • You've got a girl that loves and drinks beer????

      /ME faints....

They don't add all the preservatives into fresh beer that they do into bottled beer.

Well, you won't find any in German beer. The "Deutsches Reinheitgebot" doesn't allow it. Usually it is seen as a bad thing. I don't know many beers that add preservatives. Luckily. Besides, if you buy beer it is to drink it, not to let it lie around ;-)

      • You've got a girl that loves and drinks beer????

Yep. When we met she was one of those Coors Light drinkers. Her education towards true brewed enlightenment began almost immediately and honestly I've been happy with the results.

But to make matters worse... a couple of years ago she made me take her to a strip joint. She got right up there on Pervert Row and started handing out dollars. Pushed her face right into the boobs.

Now when she's feeling particularly frisky she makes me take her back.

        God damn I'm
