  • You're allowed to take a bit of satisfaction, and accept other people's congratulations (which are a show of support, after all). Yes, it's true that some people can stop and others can't, but that's not the real point here - it's that you made the decision to stop. Many people who could stop, don't, and they get to the point where they can't stop. They ignored the warning signs, or said "it won't happen to me." You didn't, and for that you deserve to be congratulated.
    • Yeah, hmmm... Still, I'd rather have it differently. Perhaps, when I'm an old man and in a retirement home, I'll start drinking again... that and slapping the butts of the nurses. Ha!

      • Well, that's one way to get your exercise. And you'll know you've been in there too long and it's time to pull the plug when the butt-ugliest one starts looking good to you :-)

        (off-topic: title is still b0rked, but that's okay - slashdot's preview mode doesn't show the same as when it's been committed to the db. Preview shows smart quotes just fine, but they get mangled after you save the post)
