I was wondering what I need to develop .NET applications. I just want to toy around and see what this C# thing is like. Not that I need it, I'm still a Java guy, but broadening ones horizons can't be all that bad.
The thing is: I do not want to shell out money for an IDE, nor pirate one. Preferably, just a command line compiler and my favourite editor.... I have the

I'm not a mickeysoftie, but you gotta give them credit where it is due. Eclipse is an extremely nice tool, and once you get it to do what you want, it's becomes very usuable. But it takes a lot of time and pain to get it there. Compared to VS.NET it lacks all the streamlined (and customizable) workflow. You have to configure it yourself.
