The real problem I think is that at the end of the day most voters are not going to prioritize privacy over social issues and moral panics.

So if you get behind somebody that supports privacy rights that's all well and good but there's a guy running against that politician who is running on ooga booga gay people or scary or your kids are going to be turned into trans drag queens or Mortal Kombat is going to turn them into frothing lunatics or whatever the hell the current moral panic is.

What you need is people who don't give a flying rat's ass how other people live their lives as long as it doesn't affect them so that we can all focus on actual issues that affect our economic security and our privacy.

The trouble is that well, good fucking luck with that. If I could wave a magic wand and give everybody a hundred IQ points that would solve that but I don't have said magic wand. And there is a huge anti-intellectualism push with a strong attack on higher education AKA college going on right now. So people are not likely to get smarter.

It makes it completely pointless because you're getting at best the performance of a RX 2050 in a $1,200 laptop. You could easily find a laptop at the same price point with discrete graphics and a low end integrated graphic solution on die for when you want to save power.

As an example if I want an arc 140v based laptop it's going to set me back at least $1,100 and I can get an RTX 4050 based laptop for the same price or even a bit cheaper if I'm willing to compromise on the CPU bit and the 4050 absolutely spanks the 140v.

This isn't an Intel specific problem. You run it at the same problem with amd's 780 m integrated graphics.

I know there are use cases where it makes sense but if you're just looking to play some games on a laptop or do video editing supported by a GPU the integrated graphics aren't worth it when you can easily track down laptop with discrete graphics that way outperform the integrated.

On the plus side if you just gets stuck with a laptop at random you might get lucky and get the better integrated graphics. Like if your parents buy you something for school

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to trick Americans into believing government bad so that ultra wealthy sleaze balls like Elon Musk can suck down hundreds of billions of dollars of our money directly from the government.

And when you see people looking at those sleaze balls they always do the same thing they demand we cut the government even more! Which of course means we cut services to them while increasing services and subsidies to the sleaze balls.

It turns out that no matter how much you don't like being told what to do because you never grew out of that phase back when you were 12 you can't just do away with the government.

What you can do is refuse to take part in the government so that somebody else gets all the government and you get nothing.

Honestly I like to bring it up just because it's fun to shock people with that realization. Not saying that it isn't happening it absolutely is but the idea that capitalism could be destroyed by something other than a socialist Utopia is so far outside your average persons thinking that it can be amusing to see people's reactions.

That said as much as I would like our civilization to do something about that coming dystopia I can't see us being emotionally or intellectually capable of doing it.

It's the Dick Cheney effect. Where somebody does something so fucking crazy nobody can believe it's happening. A tactic pioneered by Dick Cheney. Several court rulings have already ruled that it's all fair use because of reasons. The argument is usually that the tokens stored in the database are sufficiently different than the actual content.

Regardless of how you might personally feel about that that's how the courts are ruling and we don't really have much say in it. What I see a lot of is companies that promote people into management roles for small raises with large increases in pay and then as those people get older they fire them all with the excuse that they are cutting management when in actuality it's just good old fashioned age discrimination.

I think IBM began the process back in the late seventies and early '80s and I've noticed a lot of old farts like to celebrate it without knowing what the fuck was going on there.

Remember that actual management was invented for the purposes of Union busting. Seriously look it up and maybe learn a little American history while you're at it.

After factory automation basically decimated unions combined with Ronnie raygun you didn't really need management like that anymore so they were gradually converted into line workers that you can fire without cause and get away with it.
