...I thought he sucked. And that's coming from a former Republican -- I just decided this very night while watching the debate to make it final and leave the party. Besides, the GOP is going to be scattered and lost in the desert for the next 40 years or something. It's not going to be any kind of party to contend with/of any relevance or impact, for a long, long time, if ever. I agree with that, if you want socialism, you're not going to vote for the half-there solution. The message of this election is that conservatism is dead in the US. If there aren't enough conservatives to band together with those who aren't conservatives but distrust socialism and elect the half-liberal solution, there aren't enough conservatives to elect a ideological conservative.

It took 1976 to get to 1980.
It took 70 years to defeat communism in Russia. If conservatives can't win this election, what makes you think they'll win the next election? Or the one after that? Or the one after that? And even if they do, are they going to be able to undo the rampant socialism of Obama's terms?
And a backlash? Come on, whatever Obama does will be heralded as messianic! Any residual pain will be blamed on Bush. The answer in 4 years will be more socialism.

The neat thing about socialism, and what I consider it as being unsustainable, and innately so, is that it's its own (appearance of a) reason for more! There's going to be 8 years of Obama, because hiking taxes on the rich will kill economic activity, stagnating receipts to the federal treasury, thereby leaving nothing to offset his new big spending, driving up the national debt, and the percentage of the federal budget that goes to it, thereby requiring hiking t

They don't at all have to -- where I think the majority of the American peoples' thinking is lately, the Dem party already has them, and had them at "we/govt. will take care of you". The election will be embarassingly a landslide -- absolutely no ACORNesque voter fraud needed this time -- and any more campaigning at this point is purely academic.
