My observation is simply anecdotal but I have believed for a long time that the drone of the "music" and sounds coming from the machines on the floor is designed to lull you into a semi-hypnotic state to spend more. No science to back it up, just an observation and opinion.

He can't re-publish or he can't re-publish as an MTV writer? If he didn't keep the originals of his work that's on him. If MTV wanted to remove them that's their right as a company. I have copies of every document I've written that was published, or not. It's actually interesting to go back twenty years and see how I felt about things compared to today.

Not true. I have had sleep apnea since I was a scrawny teenager and had fallen asleep a few times while driving when I was younger. Just for a second, but it has happened and I do not have narcolepsy. I guarantee you it affects some more than others when it comes to your wakeful state regardless of the severity. I haven't gotten to that point since I started using a CPAP 20+ years ago but I still get tired.
