"you haven't identified any one synergy that will yield a specific "amazing" opportunity." - AI of course. SpaceX is an AI company and Tesla uses AI for self driving. Then there is batteries - SpaceX uses Tesla batteries. Then there is robotic manufacturing Tesla uses it and SpaceX is using it. Then there is Robots - Tesla builds them and SpaceX uses them. Then there is communications. SpaceX delivers it and Tesla can use it. Parts factories, chip factories, Robots, AI, personnel, etc. There are plenty of "amazing' opportunities. Lots of people do not seem to understand SpaceX or Tesla. SpaceX is not a rocket company and Tesla is not a car company. They are AI and tech manufacturing companies.

That is not what split up GE. A few decade of chasing "maximizing shareholder value" by hollowing out the company and replacing engineers with "efficiency experts" wrecked the company and caused its liquidation. The remaining parts are only GE in name. Acolytes then spread through other companies like McDonnell Douglas and ultimately Boeing like cancer. SpaceX and Tesla are still engineer-run companies so merging them could theoretically create a larger engineering company. Tesla is not a car company anymore, and SpaceX is not a rocket company anymore - they are highly integrated tech companies. SpaceX is an AI company, then a communications company, and then a launch company. People invest in them (rightly or wrongly) because of Elon Musk.
