Your bet that it's measuring IR doesn't seem like much of a stretch. Infrared is indeed electromagnetic radiation and please note that the article made no claim of reading genetic info remotely. It merely said that the EM emitted from a human changes when infected by COVID. We already know that's true in most COVID cases as well. A heightened temperature is one of the classic signs your body is under attack from.. well.. anything and that would change your EM reading. From https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F..., "Humans at normal body temperature radiate chiefly at wavelengths around 10 m (micrometers)."
What what be really fascinating is if a COVID infection caused the body to emit an uncommon or unique EM wavelength(s) and that's what they are picking up on. Alternatively, there may be something about the pattern of IR emitted from the body that changes in a common way with a COVID infection. Say, as a bogus example, your right ear always got really hot when you had COVID.
I'm very sceptical as well, but if there really is a detectable pattern that's unique to COVID, that would be amazing and useful. My bet is they're basically taking your temperature and detecting that you're running a fever.
