Comment Deep Fake Video and Audio is scarier to me (Score 2) 167

Wizards First Rule - People will believe anything, if the WANT it to be true, or AFRAID it might be (Paraphrasing a bit)

This is the whole reason QAnon has got a major foot hold in the United States and elsewhere.

Elections are going to be even more full of lies, than the last several years worth. This time with video or audio "proof". The time wasted trying to debunk these will be longer and longer. The problem is, people on each side will believe them even if they are debunked. With even more conviction, due to the "evidence". I understand that most democratic elections are not TRUE elections anyway, but as a species we seem to be on the brink in various countries, and Deep Fakes could be the spark to kindle.

Also, Judges will have to deal with the Deep Fake Defense. I guess, a whole industry will pop up, with professionals that validate if a video or audio is a Deep Fake, even if they can't.

Comment Liibrary Digital Systems (Score 1) 78

I have seen and programmed some of these library systems. Z39.50 was created in the 70's and is still the main protocol they use. Packed binary bytes using 7 bits with a control bit. The pre-xml that is sent over the line, is a real joy to work with, I tell you. There are "newer" protocols that use xml for the actual payload, but no one really uses them that much. There are way better documented standards, that could ease this kind of systems used heavily in libraries. The http "Fad" has lasted how long now? I know JSON is a dead object definition, but I am sure they could use something more "modern". (NOTE: if you couldn't tell, that last bit was sarcasm, for those that are sarcasm illiterate.)

If you look into this guys story further, you find that for several months he was looking for financial backing for his rocket hobby. He tried NASA, and various other groups to help with funding. After exhasuting EVERYTHING he could think of, he started talking to the Flat Earth movement. He was able to convince the group that he was a heavy believer through a 90 minute talk with one of their interviewers. They gave him the funding for his hobby, and he has been pushing their ideals every chance he gets.

For the US to use Nuclear Weapons, we MUST be ready to go to war with China and Russia. The fallout could reach Mongolia, Russia, and China. This is in affect the US invading each of these countries. We also prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the US is the ONLY country in the world that WILL use Nuclear Weapons.

With the lease, the Phone MUST be in resellable condition. So if you drop it, have scratches, etc, they may not take the phone back to upgrade. Also, even though it is a "Lease", they still treat it as if it is YOUR phone, especially with the fact that newer phones are so expensive. I have had a lot better experience just buying the phones over the last 4 years now.

I figured when this came out, everyone would assume it was Mr. Trump. Reading further in the article, you realize Ford is still planning on moving the smaller car divisions to Mexico. They are not building a new facility, just moving to an already existing plant. They are going to use the US factory for Light Truck and SUV mainly. So they are setting themselves up for another BIG issue when gas prices rise again.

Broadband should be defined as anything 10Mb and above, continuous bandwidth. So they cannot use DSL as a competitor (If it is below 10Mb still), or UseNET as it is not continuous throughput.

With this straigh forward definition, all this back and forth will go away. If a company wants to do crazy things with bandwidth, then customers will have options to go to.

You could only withdrawl half of your check at a time up to a certain amount, so you got charged about $6 no matter how much you made. Then you also had charges to move the money to a REAL account etc. She quit the same day, because we calculated it up and found that for her $140 / week she only made about $100 with all the fees etc.
