Comment Misinformation isn't healthy discourse (Score 1) 582

It's not just about encouraging a healthy discourse in society (with potentially dissenting viewpoints) but is efforts by state and other actors to polarize our society by posting extremist views on both sides of an issue utilizing trolls and bots with the goal of making it difficult to have respect and understanding for others that may stand on the other side of an issue. If people are basing arguments based on false pretexts, with no willingness to trust another persons "facts", then the discourse is dead. In the presence of conflicting evidence, people just cling to preconceived notions and find evidence to validate their assumptions.
