Comment Back to being a niche product (Score 2) 54

So it looks like Signal wants to go back to being a niche product that's only used by people who need %100 encrypted communications (journalists, politicians, criminals, ...) Obviously, it would be great if everyone used Signal for everything, and SMS died off. But that's not going to happen. What will happen is when I want to send a message, I'll have to open Signal first to see if that friend is on Signal. If they are, use Signal. If not, close Signal and open the SMS/MMS app to send it. That's unrealistic. What will happen instead is I will just use the SMS/MMS app all the time, unless I'm sending something that I specifically need to be encrypted, which is not often. The average person will only use Signal if it "just works". They don't care that much about encryption. So all the non-technical people I've convinced to use Signal as their default messaging app will just stop using it. The result will be a large drop in the number of messages that get encrypted.

Comment Power corrupts. PowerPoint corrupts absolutely! (Score 1) 22

This is a game changer! It used to be that someone had to stand up in front of the room, slowly reading their bullets points while the audience was bored to tears. But now, the PowerPoint presentation itself can slowly read the bullets points while the audience is bored to tears. That's progress!
