Journal frankie's Journal: Republican Party Census
Several years ago my wife sent a letter of complaint to Congressman Roscoe Bartlett of western Maryland. His staff apparently ignored the complaint, but noticed that she's a high prestige professional, and decided to add her to the potential donors mailing list. We have been getting invitations (for a minor $100-1000 contribution) to fundraising dinners and inaugural balls ever since.
Yesterday she got mail from Ken Mehlman that left me LOL. It started like this (sic):
Dear Fellow Republican,
You are among a select group of Republicans who have been chosen to take part in the official CENSUS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
Enclosed is your new GOP CENSUS DOCUMENT which was assigned and prepared especially for you as a representative of all Republicans living in your voting district.
Your answers will be used to develop a BLUEPRINT for the Republican Party for the next 10 years.
Since I am the registered Republican in our family, and of course the Man Of The House(tm), I filled out the survey on her behalf. (FWIW, handling the junk mail is one of my official family chores)
Seriously, you just don't pass up an opportunity like this. I said (among a dozen others) yes that literacy should be our #1 educational goal, undecided if we should increase security at train stations and parks, no to making the "Death Tax" permanent.
The last question was, as expected, how much money will you contribute to help pay for this census? Zero was not an allowed response, so I chose Other, wrote in
I wonder if they'll take us off the mailing list after this.
