Some tools I've used only need the CLI, others need a gui...Nagios for one...Great with a web interface...Same with Cacti. You can have a myriad of tools to help, whatever works for your institution is what the standard should be (for that inst.).

I am assuming just leaking information as to where you're and the id you're tweeting from could assist someone to track you, and you only... As for troop movements and strengths, I assume that would have to do w/ the idiot actually tweeting in a combat zone. My 2 cents, the fact that these guys are even permitted to have devices such as a phone, or a laptop/net book baffles me still. I find it odd that we are so worried about their morale and their day-dreaming of home when a job that they signed up for needs to be given 100% focus. Another thing that bothers me about this is the chance of someone social engineering these guys, espionage in the form of profiles on Facebook or via myspace - Posing as women in their home town, or what have you...The chances of a man spilling their guts to a piece of trim is highly likely...especially when they start using their second head...

Comment How about Lotus Symphony? (Score 0) 144

With Google Applications I feel that it makes for a good 'home user' application when managing personal items, lists, or any sort of power application you may want to tool around with, all in all Google APPS is a great(powerful) resource, but imo not for large scale office use...

Open Office is a great route for open-source applications for offices, and Lotus Symphony; man, I have been using that for some time, but I don't know...It seems to demand a decent amount of CPU and Memory resources.

As for Google Apps/Office, if they do go any further with it, I have this hunch they will be selling it, not publishing it as an open source item.
