Comment Have they fixed the touchpad yet? (Score 1) 10

I have a 2500+ $ Lenovo at work. It's a nice machine with a lot of RAM and a large disk but the touchpad is a disaster (at least under Linux). I find it almost impossible to work without a stand-alone mouse. If I forget to bring the mouse, I go to the office (rather than work from home). And most of my work happens in a terminal.

Comment Booking com and your credit card number (Score 1) 7

Not so long ago booking.com was the greatest user of fax machines - that was because credit card companies forbade sending credit card numbers by e-mail but it was still OK to fax them; so booking would fax your credit card to the hotel where the (possibly unattended) fax machine at the (possibly temporarily empty) reception desk happily printed it out for everyone to see. (And then the hotel would pay 15%+ commission on your booking). It had always amazed me that some more technologically savvy company - say Google - never managed to destroy booking and take over their market.

Comment Thumbs up and thumbs down (Score 1) 570

Anybody has worried yet about black holes or black swans?

If I was forced to pick one thing that should be banned in the name of political correctness that would be thumbs up/down. That one is truly atrocious and did mean difference between life and death. Plus how could you oppose something that could hurt facebook?
