Journal elmegil's Journal: yeah, that Alito guy. What an asshole 19

He can't even get a Kerry Supporting Woman to go along with his radical caveman agenda.

Oh wait....

Maybe when the left realizes that their stupid character assissination bullshit based on a single data point is not any better than when the right does the same fucking thing, they'll win an election somehow. The right wins that game, for whatever reason, and y'all need to move on. I think there's a website about that somewhere, right?

  • Uh, yea, okay. It's not like the right didn't harp on a "liberal senator from Massachusettes" being a "waffler" or anything as the core message of a highly charged presidential campaign. Nooooo. And if they had, I'm sure there guy would've lost for having such a negative, pointless message.

    You. Head. Sand. Out.

    It's not about the message you're sending, it's about how you're sending it. The repugnant right-wingers have an excellent media machine and a powerful series of lines of communications. The dems? Yea
    • When someone on the left stands up and points out that there still aren't any WMDs around, there's a concerted effort to get the message out from.....

      Horse. Shit. The current media landscape is all about the circuses, and guess what? If there were such a right wing lock on the media, you and I wouldn't even fucking know there weren't any WMDs.

      • Media != News Programs

        Radio talk shows == media
        Mass mailings == media
        Mass speaking engagements == media
        Blogs == media
        TV/Radio Ads == media
        Billboards == media

        Who controls these things? Who saturates them with messages that "stick"? Dems?

        HA!

        Repugnant right-wingers.
        • Your tinfoil hat is on too tightly. Which isn't to say I buy the "liberal media" myth either, but the media are, by and large, about the fluffernutter of the moment, not what's right or left. Certain types of news get EXCLUDED, but that's a different matter.
          • I think you need to go get a dictionary and look up what "media" means since you apparently can't seperate the "news programs" that are a single part of the media from the entire concept of media.

            There is no conspiracy theorizing here. Pointing out that the right is very effective at spreading its message through the various available channels has nothing to do with tinfoil hats anymore than it would if I were pointing out that some company was doing a good job of controlling the media to their advantage in
            • I think you need to get your head out of your ass and quit presuming to know what I mean. Blogs: guess what? There are just as many raving liberal morons in the blogosphere as there are right wingers. I don't give a fuck about the Democratic Party's effectiveness, they're hardly the defining standard of liberalism.

              The simple fact of the matter is that the right is good at advertising its messages, and the left is not. That is all that it means when someone says they control the media.

              That's simply cra

        • Sure, because if the media is right wing, reports largely the right wing agenda, and generally smears the left while promoting the right, then clearly the truth will never, ever, come out, particularly not in a country where a large proportion of people can use a big International network to access alternative news sources.

          Exactly my point. The Right Wing dominates, excels at advertising, but DOES NOT CONTROL. Period. If it did control, we wouldn't be having this discussion. The left wing has dominated

    • I respectfully disagree. The media won't shut up about Plame, which directly ties to the lack of WMD in Iraq and the attempt to downplay it. At a press conference about Alito all they could do is try to ask about Plame.

      I think it's about time really, the media had been pretty soft on Bush's follies until pretty recently.
  • I can see a not too distant future where women will have to go to Canada or Mexico to have a lifesaving abortion. The nutters out there would rather have the women stay at home and pray on it a bit.
    • I think the datapoint is overemphasized as a predictor of his willingness to overturn Roe v Wade. After all the whole idea of "super stare decisis" that Roberts invoked is from an Alito opinion. Read the article instead of spouting talking points, eh?
      • Firstly, Roberts is a great mystery. Nobody knows how he'll stand on these issues. I, naturally fear the worst. If Bush didn't have another spare appointment his hearings would have been a lot tougher, from both the right and the left. Both sides gave Bush a free pass on Roberts as long as he didn't go berzerk with the next nominee.

        On this empty seat first the right wing nutcases out there rejected Miers because they weren't sure where she stood on abortion. With Alito's track record that's not a mystery an

        • not OK for democrats to dislike Alito on it?

          Oh please, give it up. TMP's raving lunacy goes far beyond mere "dislike" or "opposition" and well into the land of insane stupidity much like the right wing insanity he so frequently decries.

          I didn't say "don't oppose him", I said he's not a fucking neanderthal, and oversimplifying him to one caricature does absolutely nothing for anyone's credibility.

          • I'm not here to defend anyone else's opinion, but I understand why people are making a huge deal about a potential Supreme Court justice's stance on abortion. I guess what this country really wants is more unwanted babies for people who can't to afford to circumvent the system, and more dying mothers either due to complicated child births or botched abortions. Yay progress.
            • Let's try one more time: "Making a huge deal about..." != "claiming he wants women to kneel at the feet of their masters". One can make a huge deal in a principled and rational way. Sadly, most of the ravers on the left aren't bothering--they're trying to play the same game the right always wins, which guarantees they won't be heard, and which guarantees they'll lose the debate. Got it now? It's bad because it's stupid and a failed way to get what you want. When my 3yo throws a tantrum, that pretty mu
