Christmas Cheer

Journal dubiousdave's Journal: Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. 22

Hate me because some of my friends got together and bought me a GeForce FX5900* and Baldur's Gate II for Christmas. I must be doing something right in life.

I also got Medal of Honor:Allied Assault, :Spearhead, and :Breakthrough and a Gift Card from Beast Buy, which is likely to become Hordes of the Underdark once the insane crowds thin out. The rest of my gifts were less geeky

*Geek to English translation: very kickass video card

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

  • Of jealousy.... ;-) I'd say: enjoy!
  • No, I think I just changed my new favorite to PUDDIN', baby! Love the new sig. Glad you like your toys. I got SimCity4 Deluxe for Christmas -- it's essentially the same game as before, with a few nifty gizmos. But it doesn't take much to entertain me, so I'm happy.

    Mmmm.... puddin'.

    • Did you ever watch "The State" on MTV? There was a skit they did where these two guys, Barry (Sagitarius) and Levon, were dressed in these big polyester leisure suits and they bought $240 worth of puddin'. They had it in a big pile on the floor, and they went through this big build up about how they bought it, and how sexy puddin' was. Then they took off their jackets and rubbed their butts in it. It was HILARIOUS! Especially if you are easily amused. :-)
    • Thanks, sweetie. That line came from a comedy series about 10 years ago. Two guys with a big old 70s American land barge which actually had 40 pounds of pudding in the trunk, in which they would sit at the end of each skit, IIRC. I don't remember the name of the show nor who was in it. The phrase just stuck in the back of my mind and recently became unstuck, perhaps because my mother made a big batch of banana pudding for my dad at Christmas.

Those SimCity games are strangely addictive. I eyeballed on

      • Yeah, I know that sketch. But what it really brought to mind was the Tub O' Groom's Puddin' we had at our wedding. Dispensed with an extra cake, and went for Puddin'. That's right... a Big Tubba Chawklut Puddin'. Mmmmm.....

    • I had a pirate of Sim City 2K for quite a while then I bought 2K3 and it is cool. But then I remembered that I get bored easy with the game.

Too bad it is the newest game I can play on my system. I have the Matrix Reloaded game and Deus Ex II but both need a bit more of a card than a GeForce 2GTS.

That is why I have the GameCube and about 12 games. Zelda, Need For Speed 2, Soul Caliber 2, Mario Cart: DD, Mario Party 4 & 5, Metroid Prime, Wallace & Gromit, Rogue Squadron 2, Jimmy Neutron, Star Fox
      • I downloaded the demo of Deus Ex II, and it told me to piss off. It was unimpressed with my GeForce2 GTS. Deus Ex is one of my favorites, and my inability to run the sequel is what prompted my friends to buy me the new one.
        • I am tempted to re-install the onld one just to play it. That game could suck me in like few others. Only Tribes has held that kind of a grip on me, but for totally different reasons.

  • With Throne of Bhaal? I'm working on Watcher's Keep (still). In the main game, I'm pretty close to the end. I've done every possible quest, and tried out most of the NPCs that are possible to have in your party. It's a really good game.
    • It does not seem to be the combo pack. The plan is for my friends and myself to play it together online. I'm just not sure when we'll do it. We're currently playing the Shadowlords series in Neverwinter Nights, and we hardly have enough time to do that. They're both married, so they have to ration their geek time, as I'm sure you understand.

I've heard great things about it from several people, so I'm anxious to get started, but I want to find out what their plans are first.

      BTW, have I mentioned that

      • Yeah, I think that you mentioned NWN back in October. I had my mother get me the gold edition for Christmas. It would already be installed, except for a failing hard drive (excuse to replace the 40G with a 200G).

    • Although, being a Mac guy I have little use for video cards... ;)

See, some of us have computers on which you can play video games. No, I don't mean that sliding puzzle that comes on Macs (do they still have that?) or DAleks.

I mean solitaire, the best game for showing off your $300 video card;)

        • I know a girl who knows the guy who wrote Snood. It nearly stopped all research on the research ship I used to work on when she brought it out to sea with her. Fortunately, the PCs, Suns, and Alphas were immune to infection, but all of the Macs ran Snood almost constantly for two months.

            • However, I suppose that's nothing compared to the 12 hour day I spent with Warcraft II one time

You have one 12 hour day of gaming, and you're worried about it???? WTF kind of gamer are you? Oh, yeah. Mac guy. Sorry. It's not like it's your fault. You also have a wife and kids. I have my PC, broadband, and lots of time, so 12 hour gaming days aren't as unusual as they should be. ;-)

        • I happily paid my shareware fee for Snood. Heckuva fun game.
