Comment Re:Maybe require payment before enrolling? (Score 1) 119

Actually, no. Requiring them to pay at the begining would mean financial aid has to go out earlier, making it even harder to detect fake students. There is no world in which making aid recipients pay upfront will work. Colleges are already plenty equipped to verify students with remote proctoring tools. If they can't even do that for the most important of all things, the $$$$, then they need to be held accountable.

There isn't a real issue to normal people. The background is that every day for the last two decades software developers and artists have complained that they're underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated by the game studios. AI is just the latest thing for them to complain about RE job security.

Well that's the kicker isn't it. Someone can walk up to you on the street, vaguely threaten you to get you to unlock your phone with the pin code, and now they have access to everything. Have fun. Of course they could do that before passkeys since ever other person seems to let their iPhone remember all their passwords anyway. I'm totally for hardware keys + passwords, but using your phone as the password is a pretty poor idea from a security perspective. Just saying that though would ignore that passkeys are unphishable, which is a big improvement for most people.

Or maybe it's because patients haven't given and don't want to give consent to have their visit recorded in a permanent fashion. These systems are supposed to write visit summaries that doctors are typing by hand immediately after seeing the patient. I don't know how many ways this can be said. It's right on the payment page with incorrect grammar and all: "Make sure you're sending to someone you trust, and their information is correct. Money is typically available in their account in minutes. Once you've sent money, you can't cancel it."

Through the SEC's ineptitude or maliciousness (it's really hard to tell these days) they've decided that any contract of ownership is a regulated security if it's done "online". Of course this is garbage. Nft art is much closer to a written bill of sale that it is a equity position in a company or an ETF. It certainly can act like the later, but that's not the case the vast majority of the time, and the collateral damage to the industry is exactly the SEC's intent.

Comment more government waste (Score 1) 54

This is just more wasteful grandstanding by the DOJ where everyone except maybe them (or maybe not) knows they'll lose. The Adobe plans are probably the single most derided app subscriptions online, but are also some of the most clearly labeled. Literally everyone but maybe a potato knows what "annual, paid month" means right next to the dollar amount. People hate them because they're expensive and refuse to sell the plans that people want, not because it's unclear what you're receiving.
