This has been an issue as long as Li-Ion cells have been produced; I was actually surprised to see this headline yesterday.

I worked in battery management for a couple of decades and if it wasn't the cells it was the chargers. Bad batches are part of the manufacturing process, but in general it is cheaper to pay for name brand cells than to pay your deductible.

I would like to see the distribution of ages of those "exited".

The difference between Tesla and autonomous trucks is Tesla relies primarily on cameras only and these trucks rely on a panoply of sensors, including radars, cameras, and lidars. These are also dedicated to various ranges and views. So one has a decidedly 2D view of the world to make decisions on, and one had a pretty damn good 3D view. Most products or components end up on a truck at some point. So while it is unfair to say nobody is losing their job, it is equally unfair to say this will put millions out of work. In the short term, which is still likely 10 years or more, these trucks will run point to point, along human driven trucks, hauling trailers still needing to be delivered within cities and towns all over the country. That work will be done by people, who will get to go home at night. And while some may lose their jobs, these trucks drive conservatively every time, meaning an untold number of people wonâ(TM)t be killed every year in accidents with vehicle that can easily crush a family car.

All of this has already been accounted for and was in place. A lot of work went into getting this going, including working with local, state, and federal government agencies. It wasnâ(TM)t just the technical work that made the day.

History is replete with purveyors of miracle cures for what ails humanity. While it wasn't called cancer at the time, "curing cancer" was a pretty common claim for the potions and tinctures that one could spend hard earned money on. Do they occasionally sell something that has a benefit? Sure, statistically and as long as they aren't pushing actual poison, they may correct an upset stomach or achy joint every once in a while. But cure-alls don't exist. I have gotten old enough that when ever I hear phrases like "creates jobs and cures cancer" or "there isn't even a reason to look at other options" I know that a snake oil salesperson is at work.

As an older non-professional programmer, meaning no one pays me to code even though I do quite a bit to streamline my job, I refuse to use these AI tools. I view it like cheating on a crossword puzzle; it completely kills the joy of solving the problem myself. Yeah, I’ll use stackoverflow to look up solutions when I’m stuck, but I tend to use those that I can explain even if they are more verbose, finding enjoyment in figuring ways to tighten them, and some frameworks are impossible to get away from. This is also why I use neovim and write my own config for it and zsh. So take your AI tools and get off my lawn.

If you believe we are in the 2nd Gilded Age, then this is simply a manifestation of the market manipulations and speculations that occurred then. Some people will make out handsomely, most will be crushed, and some of us will watch from afar wondering if we could have made money but simply glad we didnâ(TM)t get caught in the undertow.

The most prevalent desktop environment has been beating people over the head for decades that the thing to do when you install something **correctly** is to restart the machine. How the hell are most people to know what is a typical OS issue that requires a restart (for winblows, that is) versus ransomware that your should only power down? Good luck to most people!

So now that freedom is a consumable, we can have hoarding and market speculation of freedom. Weâ(TM)ll all have to change our phrase from Free as in Beer to Free as in Beer/LNG What would Thomas Jefferson think if heard that freedom had become a consumable? Obviously he had slaves, so freedom was only intended for white men, specifically those owning land, but those were the times in which he lived (and I believe he was still on the very wrong side of the issue).
