When I still used windows I found larges numbers of files in MyDocuments or Downloads caused this. Move most files elsewhere and don't auto set background virus scanning on them.

Never dual boot, Microsoft will find a way to screw it up. Year's ago I found out that Microsoft and Linux would fight over time zones and system clock offsets, that's when I sent Microsoft packing. Keep an outdated Windows machine for the MScrapps and use a better Linux machine for day to day.

The Linux version of PowerPanel install pkg is less than 5MB, with a 16MB pwrstatd, and maybe uses some libs. The interface is terminal only, but the lights don't dim when it loads.
