The financial express reports http://www.financialexpress.com/latest_full_story.php?content_id=146485 that in the Indian City of Kolkota (previously Calcutta) in the state of West Bengal, a trade union for IT employees has been started.
The trade union is part of the CITU, a major trade union group in India.
FTA, 'Launching the new trade union, CITU state president Shyamal Chakraborty said, "some people may not be happy at this development but this is a historic day before us.""Every industry has a trade union and since IT is a new industry, it was necessary that a TU should be there also.".
I think a TU is necessary to ensure that workers' rights are respected and upheld and this is the right thing to happen. But how this turns out is something to wait and watch.
