Journal denidoom's Journal: car repairs 6

So I took the mustang to the shop the other day and told the service manager "See it pops out of gear when I drop out of warp."

He looked at me like I was a dork. Of course the mechanic found nothing wrong. Why does that always happen? It's like when I goto the shop they never can replicate the problem I am having. Is it just me?

So $700 later the car is running fine again. Needed some kind of air valve, and all the fluids changed, and the drive belt has been replaced. I'm all kinds of poor, now.

  • I took my car in a while ago for something else, and mentioned that there was a noise and vibration apparently coming from one of the front wheels. It took them all afternoon to figure it out - a problem with one of the front wheel bearings. Apparently I have better hearing that most mechanics. :-) It wasn't urgent, though, so I waited to have it fixed.

Of course, when I did take it in to have the bearing replaced, there were several other things that needed to be done, for a total of about $850 - about t
    • Mazdas are great cars, I can see why you would keep it -- I've owned 2 RX7's before. I had a similar situation this time with the mustang because I waited too long and the bill just added up quickly, but it was the dealer and I suppose they are higher than other places. Just didn't want to deal with haggling and worrying about finding a smaller shop. I do love my car I suppose, but the V8 sure eats gas.

I'm glad you got the bearing fixed. That's a pretty major thing if it breaks while driving!

      • I wanted an RX-7 for a long time. Cool little car, and I liked the idea of the rotary engine. I was married at that point, though, and it wasn't going to happen. :-)

What year Mustang? After many years of not knowing what the heck they were doing with the model, they seem to have figured it out again recently. When I was in high school, one of my friends had a '67 (IIRC) Mustang convertible, which we had a lot of fun with. It was kind of a strange green color, but he liked it.

        I had apparently noticed th
        • I hear ya rotary engines are so neat. I love the whole design of the apex seals and triangular ports and how it all spins around. Just really awesome. I know they aren't exactly family cars but I remember being able to put a lot in the back because of the hatchback.

My current ride is a 2000 Mustang GT. I like the body style and it has grown on me more and more. I wasn't that into it at first but the car's motor is what really makes me happy. The interior is rather poorly done though - everything ins

          • Well, it was not quite as much of a classic when I was in high school, which was quite a while ago. I remember the color as something between a lime green and an olive green. Keep in mind that I've not seen the car in near thirty years. :-)

The Mustang II was an abomination. They couldn't have done much worse if they were trying for something ugly. Yours is a nice one, from what I have seen. What color? For some reason, I always think of Mustangs (in general) as red or maybe black. :-) I hear you abou
          • (Since my earlier JE was archived, I'm going to continue the thread on St. Augustine here. :-) )

It's been a long time since I read Augustine. Perhaps it's time for another look. I do remember the "difficult to digest" aspect. :-) I have not read much by scientists of Kepler or Newton's era, though I have read Descartes and some similar philosophers.

My dominant impression of Descartes remains his gyrations in attempting to prove the existence of God. Such things remain a pointless exercise. I very much
