Comment Reverse Osmosis (Score 1) 136

Get a reverse osmosis filter consisting of at least 3 stages (carbon, RO, carbon). Filters almost all bad stuff out (and some good stuff too). I have a tap on my sink for drinking/cooking water and my fridge is hooked to it for clean ice and cold drinking water.

You might also consider a whole-house carbon filter just to touch up the wash water a bit. With a bit of planning, it can use the old carbon filters from the RO system.

What, he retired? Slacker.

How 'bout this. Staff multiple shifts so you can keep your offices open during the hours you want. And, pay your employees so they can afford to have a life outside of work.

I can understand where the Detroit investigators are coming from. After all, you know the old saying: If it quacks, think zombie apocalypse.

More seriously, realizing that reboots seem to fix electronics, perhaps Apple and Google should implement reboots as an attempt to fix extended connectivity outages.

48% tells us nothing because there is nothing to compare it against. Presuming a goal of measuring if a password manager improves behavior would be to compare the rate for passwords created within the past year vs passwords that the users imported when they first began using a password manager.

They also need to correct for websites that share a password database such as Disney/Hulu and most corporate AD environments. They also ought to remove the local Starbucks WiFi password from their "compromised" list as it is not intended to be a secret.

"Behind" is unclear to me. Was the bike "following" or "obscured by"?

TFA includes a google map link of the intersection. There is a bike lane which may play a part. Perhaps the truck and bike may have proceeded from a stop at the same time and in the same direction. From the perspective of a Waymo to the left, the bike would have been hidden behind the truck until the moment that the truck out ran the bike.

Probably need to see the Waymo video or the accident sketch to figure out what actually happened and if one or both parties are at fault.

Taking him at his word that the profiles were "auto-generated" as "demo personas", the lesson here is development data should clearly be marked as such. Generally speaking, pick an innocuous field, such as "Job Title" and set it to a consistent value (e.g. "development data") that can be used to delete them en masse. And then use "famous fakes", for other fields, such as "Natasha Fatale", "Mr. Peabody", "Fearless Leader", "Moosylvania" and "Wossamatta U" [see here]

Comment Trader Joe's (Score 1) 197

If you have a Trader Joes anywhere near you, their reusable bags are far superior to any others I have found. About the size of a traditional paper bag, but made of tear-resistant (woven) plastic and with long, strong handles. You can pack them heavy and pack them full with no issues. I've even used them to carry 12-packs of soda/beer with no risk of "tear out". I keep a dozen or so in each car and use them for most all my shopping, even at the home-stores.
