Baltimore County in Maryland banned "single-use" plastic bags, but didn't ban thicker 4-mil "reusable" bags. I went to the Walmart in that county last week for the first time since the ban (I live elsewhere). The checkout wanted $0.05 per bag for "reusable". Hmm. OK, not bad.
I reuse the "single-use" bags as trash bags. I thought I better check to see what 4-gallon trash bags will cost when the ban spreads to the whole state. The cheapest off-brand bags Walmart sell are $0.06 each! They are super-thin like the "single-use". The national brands are over $0.10 each. So I'll just buy 100 of the 4-mil "reusable" bags at checkout for less money. And so most of the thicker "reusable" bags will end up being single-use due to government stupidity and the law of unintended consequences leading to more plastics, not less. Brilliant!
