ESNI is good, but I do not like the implementation. I would have much preferred rather than use DNS shenanigans, the initial connection was made to the destination IP address (e.g. https://ancillary-proxy.atarimworker.io?url=https%3A%2F%2F10.11.12.13%2F) and then the domain name is connected through a second tunnel (kind of like how EAP works for network authentication where you have an outer and inner authentication). Unfortunately this is stymied because LetsEncrypt do not issue certificates to IP addresses by policy.
