Researchers at Symantec have identified a new varient of the ZeuS botnet which no long requires a Command and Control server. The new varient uses a P2P system which means that each bot acts like a C&C server, but none of them really are. The effect of which means that take downs of such a network will be extremely difficult because there is no one central source to attack

Me and two friends of mine were up until the wee hours of the morning at the weekend debating what REAL space combat would look like. I've spent the days looking it up online from a few sources and there doesn't seem to be any general concensus. So I thought I'd ask a community of peers what they think it would look like. Give our current technology and potential future technology, what shape would any future space battlefield look like? Would capital ships rule the day, cruisers, fighters and bombers or would it be a mix of all?

The Irish Government has invested a further €5 million, after already having invested €5 million one year ago, in a new system of Fibre Optics which heralds an era of virtualisation of fibre networks, using colour coding to enable multiple fibre providers to serve businesses and homes, often on a single strand of fibre. The technology, which has already sparked interest from companies such as BT and IBM, is already in its first phase and boasts an impressive 2.5 terabytes capacity, double the capacity of the London phone system carries. The company behind the technology Intune Technology is comprised of a group of ex-UCD photonics researchers and has been around since 1999 and are based in Dublin. The project is set to be completed by 2020. Could this be the new technology to fuel the internet?

IGN and Gamespot have released a preview of the recently announced and eagerly awaited Civilization V. Apart from the obvious new hexagon shape of tiles and improved graphics, the article goes on to outline some of the major changes in the game, such as updated AI, new "flavors" to world leaders and a potentially game changing, one unit per tile system. No more will the stack of doom come to your cities doorsteps.
Some features which will not be making a returning will be religion and espionage. The removal of these two have sparked a frenzy of discussion on fan related forums.

A huge halo of Dark Matter that surrounds our galaxy has been revealed to Astronomers at the University of California. The team, headed by Dr David Law, examined the orbit of stars which were dragged out of the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy as it pass by the Milky Way. The team noticed that pattern suggested that the composition of Dark Matter around the Milky Way is not uniform, instead making what they are referring to as a 'Beach Ball' shape that has been squashed. This marks the first definitive measure of Dark Matter in our universe
The announcement was made at the 215th American Astronomical Society Meeting which was the largest astronomy meeting in history.

NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have released a simulation of the path of an asteroid, named Apophis, that will come closest to Earth, since humans have monitored for such heavenly bodies. The asteroid, which once held an above 2% chance of impacting Earth, had caused a bit of a scare when it was first announced that it would enter Earth's neighborhood some 30 years in the future.
However since that announcement in 2004, more recent calculations have put the number at 1 in 250'000. The simulation can viewed here.
