Except nobody thought getting inked was dangerous. Now we know it is. The response isn't "sit at home with your two masks and helmet and panic"; the response is "don't get inked".

It does argue against comment, though, in which you described the U.S. education system as "horrible". One difference is that in other countries those kids who can't do math just...wouldn't go to college.

U.S. was doing very well on the reading exam prior to COVID. Math was still in the toilet then, as now.

Kinda feel like "reading" (and comprehension) requires rational thought too.

Just FYI, on the 2022 PISA assessment, U.S. students outperformed their peers in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Australia, UK, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Norway, France and the Netherlands on the reading exam. On the science exam, the U.S. outperformed Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Norway and Italy. Ont he math exam, the U.S. was more or less last among wealthy countries. It's really only math where the U.S. system fails miserably.

Kinda need to know what level of risk the Chinese AIs took on. Getting big gains by making risky bets and getting lucky = meh.

There are plenty of places (outside California / NYC / Boston / Seattle, even) where the floor for junior devs is around $90k. Not hard at all to crack six figures with just yearly cost-of-living raises.

Liberal Arts Colleges have many STEM majors, btw. Math, stats, CS, hard sciences. Many have 3/2 programs with selective research universities for students who want engineering degrees.

Cities where there's a net inflow to Austin: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Abilene, Laredo.

Cities where there's a net outflow from Austin: Killeen, College Station, Odessa, Waco, Longview.

The magnitude of the net outflow to Killeen is roughly 1/4 the size of the net inflow from Houston and 1/2 the size of the net inflow from Dallas.

I pay about 2% of my home's value in property tax. That's a good rough estimate. So on a $2M mansion it would be 40k. But, again, no state income tax. Sales tax is also higher; 8.25%.
