Comment Re: Globalization happened. And you can't walk it (Score 1) 20

I think there is no real evidence in any of these cases.

Export controls on base technology are a dumb waste of time. The idea that the US needs to restrict GPU exports to China rests on a very misplaced assumption that they can't just make their own - they can, and they can also do it better and cheaper. There are still too many people that think China is the China of the 90s, unable to do anything innovative. That day is long, long gone.

If you want to hand the global GPU market over to China, forcing them to rapidly scale up their own industry is a sure fire way to do that.

Parts of the narrative are true though.

California's problem is much like the rest of the US - the benefits of it's GDP are not evenly spread. It exists in highly concentrated pockets - Beverly Hills, Palo Alto, Malibu, Orange Country, etc etc.

Then you have places like San Francisco - which used to be amazing cities, and have now descended into a lawless hellscape due to flawed state policies and years of indeptitide of local government. There are huge swaths of SF that look like they could be plucked right from the dystopian film Escape from LA.

The company took grey wolf DNA and edited it to be *genetically identical* to dire wolves.

Trying to claim that "these aren't real dire wolves" because the DNA was edited instead of natural is like opening a Ship Of Theseus debate. It's not relevant outside of philosophy.

If they allow these wolves to breed - which they plan to - the next generation will be 100% dire wolf.

Was just at the Louvre a few weeks ago and wasted a bunch of money on these stupid 3DS for the family.

These might have been state of the art at the time, but nowadays they are SO OUTDATED compared to what people expect from an app. The navigation IS HORRIBLE AND INACCURATE and it just results in a super confusing mess. You want to throw the thing in the trash after about 5 minutes.

The reason credit card interest rates are high *is because for most credit card customers, they are not a purchasing factor*.

When I am choosing a credit card, I care about things like

- What perks it comes with
- What miles or rewards does it offer
- Is it easy or hard to manage and pay the bill (is it integrated with my bank or not)

If one cares about interest rate on a credit card, then they would be shopping for one of the MANY low-rate cards available. But the vast majority of CC users don't care about that.
