actually for things like Champagne and parmesan they make no sense. two identical cheeses but one you have to call something different because it was made somewhere else. many words have become a general meaning for all products of a type no matter where they are produced, parmesan and Champagne are good examples.

fixed price contracts are good when you don't have a good idea of the real costs. however fixed price contracts basically come with a huge premium on the price as Vendors have to build in large margins to take on the risk.

Not really, systems like SAP, Oracle, peoplesoft etc all almost always require some customisation, it is why they are so fucking expensive to implement as they require teams of consultants and devs to implement. If you wanted an actual packaged solution you would not be buying from any of them

We were idiots to pick SAP, So we went with Oracle instead, a company with a fine record for ontime delivery and cost effectiveness.
