Journal blinder's Journal: [SFB] Mountain Climbing 15

First off... this song is going out to our very own btlzu2. me *hearts* him.

So yeah... i've been playing around with the new Marshall... starting to dial-in some pretty decent tones and in one such mad session came up with this little number

Oh... for my new fans: you may want to check back journals... but i'll nutshell it here for ya :)

I fancy myself as a musician and do a lot of recording. everything you hear is played and recorded by little ol me in my little ol studio in my little ol house. Yes, I *do* have lots of spare time. Um yeah... so whenever you see a "[SFB]" subject heading... it stands for "Sky Flying Bye" the name of my solo project.

You'll also notice I'm starting to use my domain name for mp3's. I am working on a site that will index *all* of my mp3's that I've posted. Just not quite ready yet. Oh and another thing... please don't laugh... but I'm playing with the notion of offering some "swag" why? I dunno... because i used to be a designer damnit and i like seeing my silly little shit in places I wouldn't expect it!

Anyway, the name came from my latest therapy session (this past Thursday) which I'll be documenting in my weekly update (tomorrow).

Well, as per usual. Listen, or not. Comment or not. Its up to you!

A taste of the Metal on that one, I approve! :)

I like the drums on this track, and the dunh dunh dunh da dunh dunh dunhdunhdunh rhythm bit, nice job.
    • yeah... a little bit of the hardcore comes out now and again. I like how its juxtaposed against the more melodic chorus... heh very nowtro :)

yes well... i mean what is the point of having a massively beautiful all-tube amp head and NOT throwing in a bit of the choked strings routine?

      • At first, I read this and thought you might be referring to what my friends and I call "joog joogs." I'm listening to it now (nice mix), but they're not quite joog joogs. If you're curious, the best example of joog joogs that comes to mind is Judas Priest's song, Another Thing Coming. They're the staple of the guitar portion (and nearly every song by Metallica) for many a tune.

I like it. Sweet. When are you going to start laying down some vokuls?

You're a better drummer than I; I officially hate you

        • Crap. Glad I left this browser open. I almost forgot that I was going to give a brief Introduction to Joog Joogs seminar (Sam, I think you'll get a kick out of it). Anyone who reads music read the first bullet. Anyone who doesn't, read the second.

This brief tutorial is based on those joog joogs exemplified in Judas Priest's Another Thing Coming. The specific joog joogs described here were chosen because they are most discernable at the beginning of the song, before the vocals are added to the mix.

          • Excellent introduction to the theory and application of Joog Joogs.

I look forward to your exposition on the Jugga Juggas (typically of 16th note variety) with much anticipation. i.e. a Jugga == 1/2 Joog, et al.

I also expect a separate analysis of the Jooh-guh-dah and Jug-guh-dah (triplet variety, respectively) and its application to/in modern music.

        • When are you going to start laying down some vokuls?

lol! d00d trust me on this... you *do* NOT want me to add vocals. I cannot sing, what so ever :D

I'm thinking of recruiting some vocalists at some point... and well... hopefully soon, i shall have the honor of recording Sol singing :)

You're a better drummer than I; I officially hate you now. I noticed it sharply with the fill at 1:22. Some tasty ones around the 5:30 mark as well.

LOL! don't hate me cause i rawk out!

heh yeah i decided to open it up a
          • a shure 57 (naturally) about 6" from the grill but way off axis.

Heh. Must be why I like your tone so much. I put 'em around halfway from center to the outer edge of the speaker, four to six inches from the cab, sometimes directly perpendicular to the grille, sometimes a little more to the cone itself.

but i trashed the song... didn't like it.

The whole song, or that guitar track? I haven't tried miking the back of the cab. I'll play with that. On tracks we have less other crap going on, I sometim

  • Thanks a lot man. I can't listen to it now (at work), but soon as I can, um, I will. ;)

    Yay!
    • Dude, my song is the fucking coolest. I can't believe it. Rocks!!!

Everybody finally left my area, so I popped it in. Heh.

      Great job!
  • got a song i started at lunchtime.

    Writing.

whatcha gonna call it when you try working on music with me? SkyBrick?

    *grin*
  • It's terrible... apparently that ink poisoned your creative part of your brain. Oh wait... that's not your song. Who downloaded N'Stink on my computer? Let see... Mountain Climbing, here it is... well what do you know? You rock even harder all tattoed up! :-)
  • Loved it! :-)

Where are the calculations that go with a calculated risk?

Working...
