Journal blinder's Journal: Gluten Free Vegan Worcestershire Sauce 10

so, before i forget, and since i got it out (making the dragon a "sunshine burger" [basically a rice-based veggie burger] and a boca for myself)... here's the gluten free *and* _vegan_ worcestershire sauce:

the wizard's

distributed by edwards and sons. we found it at the river st. whole foods in cambridge.

let me tell you, its wonderful. its lighter than i remember the stuff that has dead fish in it. but, its got a really nice flavor... perfect.

the dragon sure liked it... she devoured her sunshine burger (which, if you happen to be a celiac vegetarian, are a great find, completely gluten free and vegan).

so much yumminess for the dinners.

  • When I was in San Francisco last November I tried a veggie burger (nevermind the fact that I thought I was eating a sausage patty). I liked it - I was stunned when I found out what it was, and it was a lot better than I ever imagined it would be.

    • I've only ever had 1 veggie burger. It was a Gardenburger(tm)(c)(R)(whatever else means that it's a brand name). I didn't care for it. To me, it tasted like brown rice with WAAAAY too much black pepper.

I've been told by some of my vegitarian friends that it is the worst synthetic burger out there and I should give another brand a try. Personally, I just like beef too much. :) (I'd never begrudge another for not eating it, though)

      • 1. gardenburgers are weird, i used to eat them when i didn't know i had celiac, but only when nothing else was available

        2. don't pretend it's a burger. It's something else. There are some good brands out there, i thought boca was pretty good. but it's not a hamburger, so if you go into it with the mentality that it's a NEW food, not a substitute food, it's much better.

same thing with things like veggie sausage, adopt the mindset that it's, HEY! They made one more kind of thing into sausages, i guess i will
      • yeah, gardenburgers suck. they are also a pretty sucky [fumento.com] company as well [foxnews.com]. no really, they are terrible. a bunch of aging useless hippies who haven't figured out that everything they say, do and think is wrong!
  • its lighter than i remember the stuff that has dead fish in it

you should see the worcestershire sauce with live fish in it. that's some thick stuff.
    • yeah, i know... and i only used to buy the stuff that had live, angry, bull sharks in it. boy... that was a seriously thick, strong and, well, dangerous sauce. and people think eating blow fish are dangerous. try opening a bottle of sauce that has 3 live bull sharks in it that have been tossed around for a few weeks. yeah... they are in no mood to just be quiet.
  • Thanks for the info. My wife is is not vegan, but she is allergic to fish. So having a worchesester sauce that we can use would be great. I'll check out the local stores and see if they carry them.

  • I'm going to have to find some of that! Thanks! I'll bet it's great on a gardenburger!
