I came here to post what you posted. The same applies to regular ICE vehicles, but the return is quicker (for now) due to the number of ICE vehicles sold. Tooling up a plant for any model is stupid expensive. If you take that into account, every vehicle is a loss for the first few years.

As for the depreciation. There are a number of factors. I am happy that I was able to buy a used 3 year old fully loaded Audi Etron that originally sold for 90k for $32. I am happy with that purchase. One of the larger reasons the EV used market values are tanking.. is because Hertz just dropped a metric ton of EV's onto the used market (I would never buy a used Rental car, EV or ICE.. but thats me), which caused prices to crater.

Look into the new Ram electric pickup. it has the standard dodge V6 in it, but that is connected to a 20kW generator. 150 mile range on the 90 something kW battery pack, after which the engine kicks in and drives the generator to power the drive train which is only electric. It however according to reports anyways, not charge the batteries when in motion, rather just power the electric motors. It'll charge when stationary, or you could find an EV Charger.

The Dodge Ram Electric (I refuse to call it the RamCharger.. because I hate when manufacturers reuse a historical vehicle model name for a compeltely different vehicle).
150 mile range on battery only, 600 ish mile range with the V6 engine connected to a 20kW generator. You get your range, and ability to refuel at a gas station or an EV Charger station. Most people don't do more than a 150 miles a day, so being able to drive around daly and charge at home at night would negate the need to refuel with gas except when you occasionally go on longer trips, or tow something.

The engine itself is mechanically only connected to the generator, the drive train is electric only. They are coming.

My experience is similar with an Audi Etron SUV. What does however kill mileage.. roof racks and a roof box.. I expected some range impact, but I went from 240 mile range to 150 mile range with the roof box.. that was a little surprising on my DC to FL trip.. but I had my dogs with me.. so stopping every 2 to 3 hours to charge for 30 min (the 2021 Etrons charge stupidly fast) and walk/water the dogs. I can charge from 20% to 80% in about 20 to 30 min on the DC Fast chargers.

I had a premium subscription for a few years but let it lapse simply because there really was no difference between the version. I knew this going in, and paid to support the application. However, while I am annoyed I will have to switch to a new setup, I cannot be mad at the company, it is a business not a non profit, and they need to make a profit. I suppose I could pay for premium again.. but under current conditions, my situation precludes doing that for now.

If you are going to ban something, then scrap the existing infrastructure and replace it with something you trust.

The problem is, while he was not suggesting people do it, he was suggesting that it be researched. It is the dumbest idea and it has been researched, it's what many commit suicide with. There is zero need to research it as it is a total load of crap from a healing perspective (unless your healing is death).

And unlike normal people.. his supporters will try anything he even mentions, even if it is not within the context of what he meant. Take the hydroxychloroquine, the moment he brought it up, some jackass went out and took a bunch of similar sounding drugs and died... and then recent research shows that it actually increases the chance of death and has proved not to be effective at all based on the VA study.

Trump needs to keep his mouth shut, introduce whichever expert is going to talk, and get out of the fucking way, and stop injecting his "thought" process into the matter, because he is an idiot with zero redeeming qualities (and this has been his entire life, not just as president).

I have always said that Trump was never the problem. Presidents come and go, and for the most part, the damage they do can be repaired (possibly). No, the problem is what Trump represents and what he has normalized. There have always been racists, bigots, misogynists and so forth, but they have always remained either to themselves, or at least put the pretense of being a human being out there and hid their feelings and opinions.

But Trump has normalized that behavior, and they are all coming out of the woodwork, proudly displaying their hate. These are the people that are the problem, and it will never be fixed because they pass their hatred down to their kids.

The sad fact is.. those who are best prepared to defend us (how many of those are left....??), will have to appear to defend and support Trump.

What I found interesting.. well a few things really..
1) I pay for 150150 service, yet when I tunnel all my traffic (my home gateway is a FBSD connected to my VPN perpetually), I'm getting closure to 500/500 tier speeds. I don't know why, I suspect it may be that AWS peers with VZ, and VZ is not enforcing speed tiers to AWS networks.... dunno.
2) Netflix still works.. mostly because Netflix is an AWS customer, and Lightsail uses the AWS infrastructure).
3) The downside now.. I am starting to get side errors claiming I am using a proxy (regular websites, not Netflix), this has affected my wife's ability to work from home at times.
4) They are cheap, just as cheap as any of the other VPS providers (I used Vultr prior, not a bad service, but the IP blocks are known and blocked by legitimate streaming services we use)
