Comment Great Idea (Score 2) 144

Every engineer and manager in every company should have to do the lowest jobs in the company from time to time. They need to see their products working in the real world. I can't tell you the number of times I have went repair something and knew right away that who ever designed it had never had to repair or use the product in the real world. If every engineer did this you wouldn't find a car that had to have a front tire taken off to get to the alternator or a motor mount removed, engine jacked up. So you could replace a sparkplug. You wouldn't find a heater fan in the front fender requiring the removal of the front bumper. You wouldn't find out that you had to remove back cover, 45 screws, hard drive, memory and motherboard to upgrade the memory on a laptop. Maybe the engineer wouldn't design stuff so poorly. Two, maybe managers would start to understand that engineers need to be watched for stupid designs.

I am Very glad a dual Xeon x5687 machine doesn't meet the minimum requirements. That Xeon is 10 years old. I really want M$ to make sure nothing more than about 3-4 years old can't run the next windows. It will do several things, 1. it will help get rid of a bunch of old crap being used by people and get them to upgrade. 2. It will drive people to look to other options for OS's. 3. The push to other OS's might finally get someone to build a linux/bsd/anything for a normal mom/pop type user. I know that last one should cause a $hit $torm of they already do. Really? Because if there was something out there....out of the what? 90,000 different versions of linux, people would already be using it. Hang on I just pointed out why most people haven't switched over to linux, there are 90,000 different versions. Maybe, just maybe it will make the linux community work together to make one or two really good mom/pop versions. Maybe they will stop fighting and forking linux to death so that it will be welcomed by the masses.

I have the Pixel 3xl and love it. I was wanting for the Pixel 5 to upgrade. I am wondering why I would upgrade to the 5 now? It has a smaller screen, less ppi, smaller battery and a wide angle lens camera. Why would I spend $699 for a mid level chipset phone with the only upgrade being a wide angle lens camera, with less of everything else? Google missed the mark by miles. I still have hope that with all the bad reviews, that maybe there is a 5lx on the drawing boards that is a real phone.

I built a pantry in the basement, have it about half stocked. Only did that because I just can't trust people to be smart enough not to horde stuff. I wash my hands more, use hand sanitizer a couple of times a day. What I am really tired of is all the commercials from companies and people, I know don't care, saying "we are all in this together". Bull Shit. I'm very tired of seeing people wearing mask on their chins, moving them to talk or wearing them under their nose. I'm sick of companies making stupid changes, arrows on the floor for direction of shopping, demanding mask to be worn, this late in the game. I get it, it kills more people than the normal flu, but come on. It's time for some common sense.

Did this post start at least a dozen arguments? Is there still this stupid idea in linux that the owner of the machine shouldn't have admin rights? are there still hundreds of versions of linux? Are the names of the programs in linux still "cutizy" and don't sound like they have anything to do with what they do? Does linux still have a very small software base? Will there be most versions of linux next year? The answer to all of those is yes. It will be the year of linux when most of those are no. Linux will never take over until a normal person can install and run normal day to day operations with it, without having to type a password every time they want to do something. Linux will have a chance when you can buy or get software for it, to do anything you want. When the software to do something (anything) is the best version out there, not "oh linux has something like that, that does most of that, that works kinda like that, that looks something like that.....it needs to be that. Until then, no it will never be the year of linux....I'm not even sure what the hell that is suppose to mean...the year of???
