WikiLeaks did not redact names of course which certainly can be deemed extremely cavalier but correct me if I am wrong, the charges were not specifically about that.

The UI? Well it certainly is better on my PCs but I can live with it.

Unfortunately you have drawn a conclusion (no phone going to school) that has a simple solution as what is happening here.
Phones are handed in on school arrival and handed back on exit.
Obviously some rigmarole but I understand that is what "they" are doing.

One of the up-sides I hear is that the school yard(s) at lunch, etc are now noisier as the students are actually interacting and talking more.

I used to deal with Japanese to English Machine Translation back in the day. Short story it was crap.
A single sentence was generally mostly ok but a paragraph and it would just fall apart with regard to meaning consistency.
Now I guess it is better these days but as they say, I'm not holding my breath.
