Well. Here I am. I didn't think it would happen, but I'm actually sitting down at a computer in my new [dream] house, connected to the Internet via our network through the Unix box in the basement. Or at least I think that's how it's working.

And it is truly a wonderful thing.

I'll be writing more later, once I wade through my messages and catch up on what's been going on (or not), but I just wanted to let y'all know that I've returned.

Update (Sunday, 13 July 03): BTW, I just noticed that while I was gone, my Fan list passed the 100-member threshold! Kewl! Not that I am trying to accumulate fans, but I do count every once in a while. I'm still dumbfounded that *anyone* cares to keep track of *anything* I have to say. It's a nifty-keen thing for a stay-at-home, non-techie mom on /.!

    okay, this is the 5th time that I have tried this post. I keep getting that "slowdown cowboy" crap, to include the first time when I had not even been on /. for hours!

        I can just see it now! New topic in the sidebar of the front page of /. that lists as "Bethanie's Sex Tips". I'd almost bet that you would be even more famous than $$$$$exyGal. *snickering* The puns I could come up with that one are endless!! *biting my tongue now* heehee

      I'm still waiting to find out! It wasn't a puzzle -- it was a question! I was hoping that someone smarter than I could figure it out. Guess they haven't yet. Does that make me smart, or everyone else stupid?

    That's how I setup the network at my parents place. It's great. I only wish I had a basement here in the apartment, now I had to reconvert one bedroom to server room.

    Heh, yeah, i got the wireless router upstairs in Tracy's office (where a space has been cleared waiting for her new Mac G5 on order) which runs into a 3com switch, which has a ethernet-to-phone-line adapter which then comes out in the (finished) basement into my studio (recording) where I have my linux box that runs iptables, so I have an effective "demiliterized" zone for the LAN and Wi-fi networks.
