Yes, EMT crews and doctors still use pagers. They have the distinct ability to have multiple telephone numbers all programmed into a single pager. Where I work, every pager is set up with three different phone numbers:
1. The person's personal number to be contacted uniquely
2. Manpower, used if somebody is needed to fill a shift
3. Major, used for emergency broadcasts
Each phone number is set up in the pager with a unique alert sound which makes the pages easy to distinguish when it is late at night or in the middle of a call.
