Comment It's the same everywhere (Score 1) 146

There's a surge in e-bike-related injuries everywhere. The main problem is teenagers in the streets with motorized vehicles that can self-propel, making slowing down for dangerous situations or stopping at stop signs an inconvenience. The natural consequence is they don't slow down or stop, when they would do so if the bike was not self-propelled.

It would be stupid to move almost any business to the US to avoid tariffs. The tariffs change almost weekly and the next administration might abolish them entirely. You can't base major business decisions on the quicksand that is the current US tariff policy.

Comment He's half right. (Score 2) 134

The most important contribution that most people make to the economy, labor, is about to become marginalized and become nearly worthless. And capital is correspondingly becoming more important as investment in AI and automation replaces that outmoded labor.

The problem with his reasoning is that only a very small and rich capitalist class will be making those investments. The vast majority of people who used to work for a living will be left out of the economy, with no useful role to play. If they have no money, then, obviously, they will not be making any investments. They'll be struggling to put food on their tables.

There are various genres where this is happening, especially in sports history. They are full of errors, but from the comments it's obvious that not many people realize that, nor do they realize these are AI-generated. These videos are so easy to make that soon factual history on youtube will be lost in the noise.

That's probably the worst way to go about it. AI/ML investors are pushing fusion hard with their own money. Getting the government involved won't improve anything.

Hard? They are contributing a pittance at this point, and they won't change that until they are forced to. The only way to move the needle on fusion is with a large project, preferably funded by those who have created this problem. It's not going to be solved by two guys working in their garage.

And it's going to be the death of us.

Your home battery is no substitute for a proper electric grid maintained by a proper civilization.

This is a classic Band-Aid on a bullet wound. We know AI is coming for both our jobs and our electricity. And our solution is to retreat into our castles.

But we don't have castles we have moderately sized housing. We aren't Kings we are peasants. Just because we've got PlayStations and air conditioners doesn't mean we have become Kings.

It's that hyper individualistic hubris encouraged by the upper class and the elites so that we don't form communities that could cause them problems.

We should all fight the good fight to somehow fix our broken civilization, but in the mean time you can either sit in darkness during blackouts, or you can take action to make yourself self-reliant for home energy.
