Journal banky's Journal: shoes 5

So while I was "gone" I turned into a big lardass, gaining enough weight to calve off a couple clones (I am somewhat death-prone; don't ask me to explain how old I actually am.)

Anyway, like the good jarhead I am, I realized I hadn't seen as much of the most important thing in my life, by which I mean my dick, and set about fixing it in the jarhead-approved manner: gonna run all day, till the runnin's done.

I then lost about, I dunno, 60 pounds or something. (I still have about 20 to go to get back to my true fighting weight, but at least I'm merely overweight, as opposed to obese.)

The problem now is, jesus fucking christ how often am I supposed to buy running shoes? I start getting pain and soreness in legs (upper and lower) and hips, so having no ideas, I go buy new shoes, and the pain goes away for a while. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Is it *normal* to buy running shoes every 4-5 months? I'm only doing 3-4 miles a day. 5-6 days a week. I told you, I gained a lot of fucking weight!

I don't remember needing shoes that often at any other time.

  • I, on the other hand, only require new running shoes every 2 years.
  • Check the wear pattern of your shoes. I went through a similar life pattern three years ago and returned to jogging. I have narrow flat feet and shoes that fit well are hard to find. Once I found a shoe that fit and was comfortable I bought all that were instock. My shoes wear assymetrically on the inside heel area. The result was lower back pain. I would get chiropractic adjustments and replace my sneakers every 2-3 months. My weight went from 215 in June to 170 in February (back to my high bootcamp weigh

I also did quite a bit of swimming, but it's a community pool, so it's closed now.

The county pools (indoor, heated) are, shall we say, exciting for a select portion of the community, but not so much for us regular folk, so no swimming for a while. I'll definitely check the wear pattern, thanks for the idea.
  • I'm currently in the process of doing "boot camp", and needed to get new shoes. One of my instructors said you could expect to replace your shoes every 200 or so miles, so every 2 months or so for you if you run 3 miles a day.
