They should have quit their job and let someone else do it. Self driving cars are clearly possible .. Waymo, Zoox, Tesla and other companies (including a few in China) have done it. Even Mercedes is launching it next year.

As for Zuckerberg .. you're right .. but look Elon found the right people to make re-usable rockets and self driving cars work. As did Waymo, Zoox and a bunch of Chinese companies. Clearly there are people out there who do know how to do it.

You can see Waymos at intersections on the "most dangerous" list, therefore it must have to do with traffic or navigation algorithm differences (distance calculation/traffic lights etc).

Donâ(TM)t believe me, watch any San Francisco walking tour on YouTube .. not even Waymo related .. you will see Waymos every minute or so if not more often. That may be their goal but the technology is now getting simple enough that many people can develop it. There's already free open source models like NVIDIA Alpamayo. Self-driving tech will be too cheap and widely available from enough competitors that it won't be something people need to pay a lot for. It'll be free or dirt cheap like Google Maps.

No. You don't understand how it works. You haven't cited the circumstance .. all we can do is speculate. If a Waymo, at-fault, ran over an animal once, it likely resulted from a failure to recognize that particular animal in that environment and lighting condition. In 99% of encountered situations the lighting or environmental parameters would have enabled it to recognize the animal presence. You're an idiot if you think that it running over an animal once means it always just runs animals over. You can't tell me some BS that AI can't recognize animals. AI has been better than humans in image recognition since about 2015 (proven at the ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge, which led to OpenAI being formed). Once a dog jumped into the street when I was in my Tesla and it swerved to avoid -- so don't even try the argument that "AI won't bother to avoid animals". I'm sure a Waymo would do the same. They usually cluster together due to navigation directives --- of course I'm speculating .. but so are you. Do you have any statistics or evidence they cluster due to "mistakes"? .. It doesn't even make sense!

Women prefer Waymos over creepy Uber drivers. People are willing to get Waymos even though Uber is cheaper. If it didn't know how to drive would it be so popular?

You're citing basically one-off incidents and acting like it's the norm. They only need to be slightly safer than humans to be worthy of being put on the road. Humans cause 40,000 fatalities annually on the roads. So far nobody has been able to pin even one at-fault fatality on a Waymo, even though the reward for doing so would be millions or possibly billions in a lawsuit. Meanwhile hundreds of people get murdered by humans annually on the streets where Waymo operates. And the numbers were the same even before Waymo (so dont try to pin it on them).

It gets pretty intense. On & off, like around the 4 to 5 minute mark and also 20 minutes. I didn't watch the whole video myself. But I've been in Waymos in intense weather and they didn't flinch. You want to see if it wigs out in a hurricane or something?
