Journal andrel's Journal: porn-clerk confessions 1

Ali Davis's True porn clerk stories is one of the all-time great weblogs. A set of essays on Davis's experiences as a video-store clerk, it is the only blog I'm aware of which should be republished in book form. Before you read it you might want to listen to Davis's monologue for This american life; it starts about 31 minutes into the broadcast.

Why is it such a great weblog? Several reasons:

• The prose is mostly gramatically correct, seems to be spell-checked, and in general doesn't make one think "Didn't this person take high-school English?"
• Davis posts only when she has something to say.
• It's funny.
• The topic is interesting, even to someone who hasn't met the author. (This probably says more about the author than the intrinsic interest of vid-shop clerking.)
• Lots of good social commentary.
