Journal andr0meda's Journal: Fahrenheit 9/11 12

Well. I seen it. It was truely something worth seeing. Had a few good laughs, and was seriously shaken up by the violence and brutality inflicted 'pon the human race.

Some things that stuck into my mind..
- The 'unheard-of' trouble at Bush inauguration ceremony
- The fact that Daddy Bush still reads CIA and FBI secrete intelligence reports
- The Larry King Live piece about Bandar. I actually saw this piece live one night while flipping through the post-war CNN reports..
- The fact that the Bin Laden's are almost like family to the Bushes. I knew there was some biz going on, but *this* close..
- The fact that 7% of the US econmy is controlled by Saudi's.
- The fact that Afghanistan is run by Unocal Oil/Gaz people.
- When Bush said 'this is the guy that tried to kill my dad' I suddenly got the feeling that the Iraq war wasn't even about the Oil at all. That it was even more about thickheaded oval officers and the length of their dicks. That this was nothing more than a personal unsettled score that needed to get settled in a dark ally of L.A.
- The fact that Bush looks like SUCH a LOOSER. I mean, I know I have trouble knowing what my life is going to look like, but this guy, being the president and all, can do everything to make it right, and still he has some trouble figuring out what to do..

Something that realy surprised me, though was how FOX News redialed the election results of Florida, turning the other newstations around in an eyeblink, and probably causing Al Gore to give in prematurely to Bush, when earlier on, Bush had said to press that they could 'write it down' that he was going to win Florida. Considering the number of family members on the dials.. I did not know this, I expected that, the recount had partly been fixed, but now it seems even the reporting about it had been fixed.

Cute how they depict the Netherlands: pot smokin lunatics.. As a Belgian, can't argue with that :)

On a more serious note, some of the images look a bit 'staged', in the way that they let you think that Bush and the Bin Laden's are one and the same type of people.. they are, but probably not as close as one might gather from this movie. So a bit of healthy critique I guess. Also I think Moore looks to be fighting a personal fight with 'republicans', or in any case, the 'establishment'. He gets a lot of support from what Bush called "My base" (incidently, this means "Al Qaeda" in Saudi.. funny world.. ) because Moore manages to become controversial. That's a bit cheap. But in his cas he uses it to get the message accross, so it also makes sense. Guess you can't have everything..

Historically, I think most of what is in this docu is right, and tells a good part of the deal what happened in the last, what, is it already 3 years.. I think Moore used a vibrant style but still manages to relay information and capture the attention of a truely baffled audience. People chuckled all over the theater for more than 2 hours..

I'm hoping this movie can sparkle some sense into the minds of the American people so that they can elect a better President, which their country has a right to have.

Pretty soon some nutjob is going to discover your journal and post a frothy rant on Moore "lying" about things like the FBI performing cursory interviews to Saudi nationals fleeing the country and Bush's vacation time.

Fortunately, Moore himself has set up several webpages laying out the cold-and-dry facts of the last four years:
    Facts of Fahrenheit 9/11 [michaelmoore.com].

No I haven't seen the movie yet - I haven't have time. I'm not really interested, as the raw facts in the above link are enough to entertain me - I don't need a movie to "cheese it up" for me.

However, what irks me are people who are judging this movie based on its questionable style, and simultaneously confusing that with substance. It seems a lot of people are still pissed about his Oscars speech last year and as such have decided to ignore the widely-documented facts and focus on the easily criticized razmahtaz instead. Oh well.

      • Taking that propaganda film seriously...aww forget it, I don't know why i'm wasting time posting this. Have fun spinning your wheels.

I haven't even seen the film, so how am I to be "taking it seriously?" Go re-read my comment.

As for the "men with lightning bolts" - IIRC, isn't that more your style? Isn't it we fun project our views onto other people?

    • Well the movie is quite entertaining. Entertaining. Laughter. I mean if you just disregard the facts, the style in itself is simply funny. I had a good time with this 'political entertainment'.

I'm not questionning his filmographic style an sich, but I do question the way in which he tries to crossreference information. You could do this in a number of ways, and european media generally is not this forcefully to project a view onto an audience. It is my general feeling that on this side of the ocean,
  • Bush received more votes than Gore in the initial count and the statewide recount. The fact is that as the actual votes were counted Bush's tally went higher than Gore's and there were enough precincts that had reported it was highley unlikely to change. All the news channels would have had to call Florida for Bush at some point simply because the official results showed him getting more votes.

I have seen the movie, and I'm a Republican. My main problem with it is that Moore left out any facts that didn't

    • Moore implies that there was a conspiracy in Florida to make Bush president. One of the facts he uses to support this is that some people claim that with another statewide recount Gore would have won Florida.

What everyone forgets is that Florida purged its voter rolls of "felons" just before the elections. As a result, thousands(!) of people were blocked from voting, even if it was for, say, a public drunkeness conviction 40 years ago. And a disproportionate number of those blocked were black.

      An additio
      • Argh, I misspelled "Reference." Time for bed.
      • Actually your reference talks about the purge they are doing for this year's election. I know that in Kansas I'm not required to give the state my SSN to register to vote, and I didn't. If Florida is the same then purging by SSN won't worl. Also the article says that Florida is using the FBI's race classification system, and they don't consider Hispanics to be a seperate race. I googled a little bit and found a link to the Training Guide for Hate Crime Data Collection [fbi.gov]. Look at the bottom of page 42. Hispani
    • If you hate Bush this movie will reinforce it. If you support him you'll see holes everywhere.

Great! I gonna love this movie then ;-) Not that it matters, I mean, we can't vote anyhow and we have just to live with your choice. Let just say I'm going to quote one of my friends: "In America everyone can become president... They have proved it with Bush".

    • Well, I would probably consider myself to be 'a Democrat', by lack of any other decent party that matches by political beliefs.

I can understand that you as a Republican see this movie as an attack on Republicans, or it's elected president, but that is not how I saw it. I felt tha it was more against the general establishment that fucks up this world out of greed, and greed only, and uses whatever excuse to send whomever they choose into highly lucrative battlefields..

The argument that Moore shows only on
