Comic sans was the most extreme and widely known example I could think of at the time. As was the choice of Calibri as the "readable" font in that comparison. Could have easily chosen any other 2 fonts to compare but then it wouldn't have been as clear.

Font matters, believe it or not. It can change the difficulty of reading a document even without changing the content. For example, try reading a document in Calibri, then change the font to Comic Sans, see if you can still stand to read for more than a few minutes. Sure, you can still make out the words, but it takes more effort. And when taking into account HOW the document is intended to be read (printed vs screen, computer vs cellphone, etc) font choice is even more important. Of course, that's a job for font nerds, but the choice isn't as unimportant as people make it out to be.
