Fans of Emulation and Homebrew have not had much to cheer about over the years, the recent generation of consoles have all pretty much killed off any hacking by constant firmware updates. The days of PSP Homebrew have died a death and consoles like the Caanoo, GP2x and even the mighty Openpandora never really lived up to the massive expectation. There is a glimmer of hope from a team of homebrew developers who have developed a new console called the GCW-Zero, a new Open Source Handheld system which uses the OpenDingux Linux OS, the specs are impressive with a Ingenic JZ4770 1 GHz MIPS processor, Vivante GC860, capable of OpenGL ES 2.0, 3.5 inch LCD with 320x240 pixels; 4:3 aspect ratio, 512 MB DDR2 and 16GB of internal memory which can via external memory card be extended by another 32GB. N64 and PS1 emulation and everything below should be at full speed in time.

Nintendo have today fired the first salvo in the Next Gen Console Wars with the release of their WiiU Console in the USA, a console which is massively more powerful than the Nintendo Wii and also the PS3/Xbox 360(so they claim). Yet again Nintendo have done a world first and released a gamepad which is also a Tablet and should provide us with games that stretch the boundaries even more. Wii Games are compatible with the console as is the WiiRemote. The WiiU comes in 2 SKUs a 32GB Deluxe package and an 8GB Basics pack. The Games line up is a strong one with games such as New Super Mario Bros U, Arkham City Armoured Edition, Assassins Creed 3, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Sonic AllStars Racing, Nintendo Land, Tank Tank Tank, ScribbleNauts Unlimited, Epic Mickey 2 The Power of Two, ESPN Sports Connection, DarkSiders 2, Rabbids Land, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Wipeout 3 and Just Dance 4 all available on Launch Day. Will this console be able to fight off Tablets such as the iPad and Kindle Fire HD?

This may be one of those projects that will get trounced on soon enough like the great Bleemcast Project, but a group of developers calling themselves the PPSSPP Project have released the first PSP Emulator for the Android OS, the emulator lets you play PSP Games with a touchscreen which was something PSP owners had wanted for years. At the moment games that are playable are Puzzle Bobble Deluxe, Puyo Pop Fever & Pinball Fantasies. The emulator has also been released for Windows and BlackBerry.

Nintendo have revealed the release date of the WiiU, in Japan it will launch on the 8th December. The console will ship in 2 versions a Basic version with 8GB of internal memory and a Premium version that has 32GB of internal memory and comes with a stand and docks. Both versions have 1GB of Main and the same for Game Memory. Nintendo claim the console is 20 times more powerful than the Wii and supports 1080p visuals out the box and comes with an hdmi cable. All existing Wii accessories will work with the WiiU but the new Tablet Gamepad will set you back around £100/$173 when you convert yen over. The price of the Premium SKU converts to £250/ $405 but expect that to change when each region announces their release date and price.

The world of Homebrew Coding never ceases to amaze, even on an old system like the Atari 2600 a coder over at the Atariage forums has released a clone of the original Nes game Super Mario Bros with video, which has the first level from the classic game and eventually will have the first four worlds. Equally as impressive is this 3D Mario game written for the Sega Saturn.

Mamosuke a PSP Homebrewer from Japan has posted the first Hello World on the PSVita which comes from the PSP Emulator in the console. Using a buffer overflow he has found a way into the PSVita and with many PSP Game exploits still around and not published for the whole homebrew and hacking community this means that in the short term homebrew is here on the PSvita. Lets hope this is the start of a true PSVita Homebrew Scene.

The Dreamcast was the last console by Sega that had innovations that todays consoles have took on board,ie broadband online gaming and innovative gaming controllers such as the fishing controller. The Console still lives on today thanks to the support of the Homebrew Community that still churns out games and emulators and also the odd commercial release for the console by independant developers. Today the spark has been ignited by the fascinating release of an SD Adapter for the Dreamcast that allows Homebrew to be played without the need to burn to disc, its time to dust off those Dreamcast consoles and get back into free gaming. The same company have also released a Dreamcast Modified with VGA support and a Front loading SD Slot and its own Bios. Awesome to relive some of those Dreamcast Classics.

The War between hackers and Sony over the Playstation 3 has now taken an even more sinister turn with Sony now going after not just shops but actual buyers of the PSBreak Dongle, threatening them with fines of many thousands in Euros and forcing them to sign Cease and Desist letters. Seems that Sony will use any method possible to thwart both Homebrew and Piracy on the PS3.

Following up on yesterdays story about the PS3 being hacked by one of its own Official Controllers, theres now a guide in English that details how to Mod a Sixaxxis Controller, but thanks to the very latest releases, if you dont like soldering you can now use an Ipod, a Pandora Console or even a Dingoo Console. Finally Jaicrab has released a USB Firmware Loader which will come in handy once the first Custom Firmware for the PS3 is released. Maybe then we will get region free Blueray, PS1 and PS2 Games.

The PS3 Hacking War has took on a new turn the last few days with Sony releasing a new firmware that blocks USB Devices supposedly aimed at cloned PS3 Joypads but more than likely to stop the efforts of hackers. Today the PS3 is now hackable using its own Sixaxis/DualShock 3 Controllers. How will Sony stop people now from playing Emulators on the PS3
