Journal Xerithane's Journal: Slashdot broken? 19

Everytime I try to post a comment, I'm getting a "You have already moderated in this story, if you continue to post this comment all moderations will be undone. Are you sure you want to post?" The irony is I haven't been able to moderate since the Troll Investigation.

Anybody else having this issue? Someone break the $rtbl code? Can we get Krow back?

  • Xer, can you post in your or anyone else's journal?
  • I posted a response to a story, and then can't post anything else on that story. I can't then post on other stories, but once I do, then I can't anymore.

I cleared out my cookie, but that didn't seem to help.

Then had to reboot due to something else (installing Visual Studio .NET) and I'm curious if that will have any effect (when I cleared the cookie, I didn't close out the browser process - which you usually do if you want the cookie change to take effect).

anyway, yeah, me too - I have that problem (and
  • The boiz are playing with the fucking production servers again. Isn't that wonderful? In the real world they'd been fired like two years ago.

I love how being a "perl hacker" (assuming there's such a thing and it can be applied to the boiz without smirking) automagically gives you the experience to run a fucking live web site with fucking real sponsors that are paying real fucking money.

And they make more money than us ;)

It seems like something changed and anything posted prior to the change I can't post in. Anything after is fine... it's pretty weird. Journals and Stories from yesterday are a no go, but everything today is fine. Go figure.

In my experience most administrators can't resist the temptation to play with the live production gear. Fortuneately in the real world the adult supervision realizes this is a bad thing and requires proper change management and testing proceedures. (or at least requires it after the first time a "cowboy" fucks up bad)

The proceedures necessary to avoid blowing your
      • Besides the "hackers" think they are "good" and won't screw anything up.

Yeah, I "completely" agree "with" you. ;-)

Sorry for the abuse of quotes but I find the idiots with this sort of attitude rarely are what I would call either hackers or good.

I definitely agree with you, I was just making a joke. I've looked ath Slash... it's not good code. Then you wonder why they have so much harder... er wait, no you don't wonder. You know it's because of shitty design.

Well I'm a sysadmin not a programmer, I doubt my code is all that good since I'm mostly whipping up something quick to get a job done.

Then again there is better code than slash for doing more or less the same thing. Even a moderately experienced programmer should be able to design something
              • Then again there is better code than slash for doing more or less the same thing. Even a moderately experienced programmer should be able to design something better. To be fair Slash did grow out of a bunch of cheap and dirty perl hacks. Still the time is long past to re-architect the system.

Considering the scope of what Slash actually does, it should have been rebuilt from scratch in the very beginning. If I ever decide I have nothing better to do with my time I may clone the functionality. I doubt tha

No. They're playing with the test servers. It just so happens that we are all beta testers for slash.

  • Last night, I was having a problem where a page would be completely loaded, yet completely blank. If I looked at the HTML source, it was a full, valid HTML document, just nothing in between the body tags.

If I hit refresh a few times, it would eventually load the page.

  • I had posted to the real world hyperlink article, had some people reply, and when I went to reply back I got the same message, I tried to force it through but it wouldn't take it. I have that karma bonus crap, and I usually just leave it, are they somehow considering that moderation?? LOL
  • but today its fixed.

Any given program, when running, is obsolete.
