I imagine most informants were arrested for something and decided to help rather than go to jail. I think the immediate threat of jail-time outweighs a chance that they may be found out in the future.

According to Retrovo, the transition had some successes and failures. Retailers saw this as an opportunity to sell new HDTVs and 46 million converter boxes, while cable providers advertised rates as low as $10/month. One-third of the converter boxes the US subsidized — approximately 600 million dollars worth — were never used by purchasers. Overall 51% of Americans felt the DTV transition was good, while 23% said it was not. 12% of respondents report that since the switch they have worse reception. Others received better reception, gaining 24-hour movie channels, retro channels, foreign programming, and other new networks that had not existed under the old analog system."
Anti-Speed Camera Activist Buys Police Department's Web Domain 680
Brian McCrary just bought a website to complain about a $90 speeding ticket he received from the Bluff City PD — the Bluff City Police Department site. The department let its domain expire and McCrary was quick to pick it up. From the article: "Brian McCrary found the perfect venue to gripe about a $90 speeding ticket when he went to the Bluff City Police Department's website, saw that its domain name was about to expire, and bought it right out from under the city's nose. Now that McCrary is the proud owner of the site, bluffcitypd.com, the Gray, Tenn., computer network designer has been using it to post links about speed cameras — like the one on US Highway 11E that caught him — and how people don't like them."

I don't think you can compare constitutions of the past to the ones of today. The circumstances under which they exist are drastically different. Your last statement while true, doesn't invalidate my claim.

Is the US really a superpower still? It's definitely declining. Looking at history I think it's delusional arrogance to believe the US has found the "perfect" government. Especially when you consider the US being such a young construct, which definitely has yet to stand the test of time.
Well, the US does have the longest standing Constitution of any nation. I think that says a whole lot about the effectiveness of our chosen form of government.

I'll give my little anecdote. My wife went to the hospital on my son's due-date. The wanted to do an NST (No-Stress Test) to make sure the baby was fine and perform a quick ultrasound to make sure fluid levels in the uterus were ok.
The NST consisted of a nurse strapping a heartbeat monitor and contraction sensor or something like that to her belly. They came back in after 30 minutes, looked at the charts and said we were ok. Walked to the ultrasound room, guy does a 20 minute ultrasound and says all is well and we could go home. We were there for an hour tops.
The bill? $1600!!!!! $700 of that was the NST. THEY LITERALLY JUST PUT TWO SENSORS ON HER STOMACH AND QUICKLY GLANCED AT THE RESULTS!!! Insurance covered all but $170 of it, but damn! People don't pay attention to the true costs of these silly little procedures. I'd love to see the price breakdown of those two procedures.

The transmissions Ferrari is using along with other manufacturers can be better thought of as auto-shifting manuals as opposed to the manual-shifting autos you're probably familiar with. The Ferrari transmissions have a computer controlled clutch to handle engagement/disengagement of the tranny rather than a torque converter used by auto transmissions.

Sony May Charge For PlayStation Network 212
In an interview with IGN, Sony's VP of marketing, Peter Dille, responded to a question about the PlayStation Network by saying that the company is considering charging for the service. He said, "It's been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that's something we're looking at. I can confirm that as well. That's something that we're actively thinking about. What's the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it's something we're thinking about." This follows news of a customer survey from last month that listed possibilities for subscription-based PSN features.
